    I've wondered that myself, exhibitions maybe? I think Ipswich Express would know!

    Jacksons the same guy that fought a 61 round draw!

    yeah what an animal, and considering that it was in the late 1890's when travelling was huge, he fought in a fair few different countries

    Depending on where they took place, fights were often illegal and stopped by Police. Also they were unlimited rounds and often both fighters were unable to continue due to exhaustion and bouts were ruled No Contest. Fights often continued until someone was stopped so if a fight just happened to be scheduled for a number of rounds and nobody was stopped, the press would usually declare their winner (though this was unofficial) and a NC was ruled. Jackson was a legend.

    Even in the era of the Cinderella Man, James Braddock, many fights were declared no contests.

    At that time if there was a lack of desire by the fighters to get-it-on the referee would simply declare it a no contest, and I think from memory neither fighter got paid for such an outcome.
