Did anyone go to Malvern Town Hall last night, or hear of what happened? I saw the results in Boxrec & it didn't look too good, with Blake Caporello stopping a Thai who's been losing fights here for years. Also, Callan Orchard & Pradeep Singh were in against consistent losers from across the Tasman & won. I'd be interested to hear your story of the night.
Thought about going, but the bride had 'better' ideas. Ray has avoided elaborating beyond the results: Caparello stops Nanakorn by Ray WheatleyWorld of Boxing - 1st April 2011 Australian light heavyweight Blake Caparello (7-0-1, 3 KOs) stopped Kongrit Nankorn (16-16, 6 KOs) in seven rounds on Friday at the Malvern Town Hall in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Caparello controlled the bout in all the rounds until the stoppage in round seven. Caparello scored the best win of his career when he outpointed former IBO world title challenger Michael Bolling over eight rounds in 2011. On undercard fights super middleweight Pradeep Singh (16-3-1, 8 KOs) outscored Peter Tovio (2-6-1, 2 KOs) over six rounds. Light heavyweight Callan Orchard (4-0, 1 KO) outpointed Moses Loelu (3-16, 1 KO) over six rounds. Light middleweight Ashley McDermott (1-0-1) defeated Anthony Palermo (0-1) over six rounds. Promoter: Peter Maniatis.
Ray couldn't elaborate 'cos he wasn't there. His knock-ups are based on what's in Boxrec. Had I inserted results, I would've thrown-in a few dud scores to prove it, which I've done in the past on purpose.
BTW, I wouldn't take much notice of results in Boxrec. It's unclear whom some of the opponents (tourists) fought. e.g. Delic & Venka were matched, but apparently they both won??
Other than the main event, the bouts were said to be quite entertaining. I wasn't there, but I spoke to a handfull of guys who were... but I spoke to them over the phone the follwing day, so their judgement may have been impared by hangovers... Mine certainly was.
Getting on da **** @ boxing show is extremely unusual At ABCOS Stadium Adelaide, they'd go thru 5 kegs before first punch was thrown
ABCOS Stadium, Adelaide in mid 90's Great boxing venue - capacity approx 3,000 (1,000 seating, 2,000 standing) The photo was taken in mid 90's, but was no different on December 1 2000, when I officiated my last show in Adelaide & moved to Gold Coast & became a NOBODY This content is protected
Entertaining is the name of the game - will see if I can get some feedback from people who also attended.
CHB.. The responses from yesterday (a lunch/drinks arvo out) continued on in the same mould. Only the main event was said to be a let down on Fridays card.
Suit & Collar, or black Thai. The shows are very formal indeed. Good luck to Peter. A good local ambassador. Full credit to him.
