What's your take, Suge? I think this fight may go the distance. Pete doesn't look like the man.

Sam will probably be within 10 pounds of his weight last time either way. I don't like the long layoff, but for the Peter fans the battle is all downhill now. Supposedly Maskaev is showing up, I believe more than half of the battle will have proved to be getting him in the ring.

And the other half, the toughest half, will be Peter trying to avoid being outboxed by Maskaev. :good

    Oleg by decision.

I do think Peter has a good chin. He went twelve with a big puncher in Wlad. Toney isn't a very big puncher at heavyweight though. Still you are right none of Toney's puncher phased Peter and Toney has a stoppage over Holoyfield, so he's not a weak heavyweight puncher.

Sure Maskaev has been Koed in the past but Peter's power and skill are highly overrated. Between the two, Maskaev is the heavier hitter based on the competition he's faced and koed. I believe Maskaev has overcome his mental/confidence issues based on how tough he fought Rahman and the way he took some of Rahman's best stuff in that match. If Peter comes in overweight (255+) I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a late Maskaev win by TKO. It takes stamina to survive a hard fight for 12 rounds, not just a chin. Maskaev by UD or late TKO depending on Peter's weight.

Peter is a former soccer player who has stamina, and is of a naturally large physique. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Maskaev vs Peter can go either way IMO.
Peter isnt the undisputed nr.2 at heavyweight as some people here on esb make it sound.
Peter had two lame fights with that fat dwarf Toney who was barely able to beat a mediocre journeyman in his last outing to a ring.Peter also had to go the full route with the harmless Croat Pudar, and didnt look that convincing in some of his other pro fights.
Paolo Vidoz kicked him out of the olympic games, and at the amateurs he wasnt even worth to cross Povetkin's shadow.
Maskaev isnt the youngest fighter out there.True! And he isnt in his prime anymore either. However,he is still a decent fighter, and he for sure can be competitive against a fighter like Sam Peter.
If forced I would probably bet my money on Peter, but I wont be surprised at all to learn that Maskaev has won a wide point decision against the slow African.
