    Peter promises to floor Maskaev
    • Tuesday, Feb 5, 2008

Nigeria’s Samuel Peter, the interim World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion, says he will knock out the former WBC champion, Oleg Maskaev in round three of their title bout.

Peter and Maskaev will slug it out on March 8 in Cancun, Mexico for the undisputed WBC heavyweight belt.

Speaking with Tidesports’ source in New York from his Las Vegas camp in Saturday, the Nigerian pugilist said: “Listen, my friend I am going to knock him out in the third round, period”.

According to him, he will put smiles on the faces of Nigerians and his Americans fans by defending the title, saying“ and, in doing so, I will win convincingly for everybody to cheer”.

He adds: “I am in good shape and in high spirit waiting to pounce on Maskaev to settle our scores once and for all”.

He, however, called for the support and prayers of every Nigerian to ginger him to victory.

As a perdicted a couple months, Peter is going to knockout Maskeav brutally in the 3rd round, it will come from the overhand right, a punch Maskaev is very susceptible to and it's Peters most powerful punch.

Maskaev is an enigma. He gets destroyed by Lance Whittaker, and one eyed fatso giant Cory Sanders (not the South African, who is a golf playing part time boxing fatso), but gives a prime Tua hell, and knocks out Rachman..twice. He goes down like a lead turd against Whittaker from a tap, but endures scores of scorching right hands from Rachman.
Peter certainly is not unbeatable. He has not improved since he fought Wlad. Big , flabby, obese egomaniac Toney just made him look good.
But which Oleg shows up for this one? The guy who lost to pathetic Whittaker gets ko'd. The dude who knocked out Rachman, wins and wins big.

I think even the most biggest Peter hater could see Peter has improved his craft alot since the Wlad fight in September of 05, his jab is more powerful, his body work has improved a ton, and his punching technique seems to be alot better as well, Peter still has alot to learn, but at for only being 27 he's coming along quite well IMO.

peter better floor or stop maskaev for his own good. This extreme hype about his power has already gotten embarrasing.peter has only stopped 1 of his last 6 opponents.I think the drought ends against maskaev.Peter to win within 6 rounds.

He promised to make quick work of Jameel McCline, but that didn't happend... he was almost blitzed quickly himself.

Peter is already exposed, and for Maskaev, losing is not an option.

Maybe, but he seemed to have lost his most important asset - iron chin. And don't tell me about Peter being out of shape against McCline, as being out of shape has absolutely nothing to do with punch resistance. Fat James Toney can still take a punch.....

Every fighter has a bad night, even one's with great chins like Holyfield, who was knocked out by Bowe in 95 or when Cooper floored Ali. I think the Peter/Mccline fight was a fluke of sorts, Peter had only 9 days to prepare for his oppenent, who is a much bigger man than Maskaev, which left him almost no time to train with a bigger sparring partner. You must also take into a acount that Mccline has very good punching power, he has floored Bryd, Brock, Briggs, and lately Peter early in fights, it's only later in fights where he losses most of his power, because of his stamina problems.

yeah for big Oleg its either win or go home i think he is gonna come into this bout at his best and pretty much take the nigerian assclown to school and probably knock him out in the 10th or 11th round after he tires him out just like he did to rahman
