ironic and controversial this may seem..but I still rate Quillen very highly even after the first-round k.o loss...I guarantee you this ....he will be back and be dangerous to anyone in middleweight division...I am 100% certain..bump this post in 18 months
I've always had a feeling about him, I knew it was only a matter of time. Quillin to me is a fighter who flatters to deceive. Great power, at first glance he appears like a good boxer but he has severe lack of heart and chin.
He can punch and he's athletic but...nah. Too much wrong to have ever been a p4p threat or #1 in the division like a select few (mostly GGG haters) thought.
First round ko's don't really tell me too much except that the fighter was caught cold. Quintana was ko'd in the first round by Williams after winning a ud over Williams and I think the ud was less the fluke than the first round ko. That being said, Quillin is not very refined and you can only go so far with the boxing skills that he possesses.
There's still some interesting fights out there for him, he's just a bit of fool's gold at the top level- he looks the part at times, but upon further inspection, isn't the real deal. At least not at that level...but that doesn't mean there's not a spot for him in boxing. He's not a bum. It may be an issue of hunger for him now. PBC really coddled him in certain areas, and I'm not sure he's still got a fighter's mentality. He'd already been matched softly, but Al paying him to vacate his title instead of just having him take the career high payday sent the wrong message entirely.
Agreed. His match ups and fights have lefft much to be desired in the last few years. Aside from being neck deep with all the PBC politics, as you say, his hunger just seems not to be there. His comments after the Jacobs fight, snd his demeanor seems to speak of a guy who was almost too accepting. Resigned. Of course, suffering your 1st career loss via stunning 1st round KO might leave others a bit uncertain as well. But there seems to be a picture being painted, you know.
