Quillin vs Konecny is an awful fight that will be a one sided beat down. Konecny has lost any time he has stepped up above Euro Pudding level. Truly shameful match-making.
Honestly I just feel bad for Quillin more than anything. This is a good reminder, that despite some of the good cards GBP has put on at 147 and 154 lately (due to limited dates + network competition ) in-house.. that the Espinoza/Haymon/Schaeffer approach is actually very very bad for the sport itself.
Huh... saw the video.. not how I remember it at all. Stevens was all "you gotta put friendship aside to chase the money". Quillin seemed down for a scrap as well, he knows as well as anyone Stevens at Barclays would finally make him a headliner.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue56YPVcjaM Maybe I am seeing something that's not there, but Pete took that turf and Curtis made a bee line out. Their friendly towards one another, but Curtis is usually a little more into promoting something like a fight between them.
Luckas who? Not surprised. After the scare they got from Rosado in the last fight, I had a feeling Golden Boy was going to match him up with someone who lacks power and/or skill. This is the perfect fight for Quillin to look good in.
Actually, he was robbed against Baysangurov. I had it 116-112 Konečný. Those scores were an outrage. Take away that robbery and Konečný's only two defeats in the last decade are to former world titlists Piccirillo (whom Konečný dropped) and Dzinziruk (in his prime, still unbeaten, via MD) Konečný is pretty good. I'm not saying he is a terrific middleweight title challenger for Kid Chocolate, but anyone calling him a bum needs to STFU. ' He was a very solid junior middle at world fringe contender level for a long time and hasn't been clearly defeated since 2006. ...and for the record, he actually has been vacillating back and forth between junior middle and full-on middleweight his entire career. He was the Czech middleweight champion in 2009-2010, campaigning exclusively at 160lbs for five straight bouts and nearly half of those in his professional career including the last two for the WBO Euro MW title he currently holds.
Interesting tid bit from Konency-Baysangurov (who's trained by Abel Sanchez): http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/kon...ahead-of-baysangurov-world-title-fight-141054
Actually he beat Gevor twice in the same year, once by stoppage, but that isn't his best. Matthew Hall is, followed by Gevor tied with Hussein Bayram. If not for getting screwed, Baysangurov would be his #1 and his best five scalps would be, in order: Baysangurov, Hall, Gevor x2/Bayram, Colas.
I'm not calling the guy a bum, just like I didnt call Adama a bum so I hope you werent referring to me cause thats not what I wanted to imply. I am just pointing out that there are much bigger fights with bigger names that would get much more attention, that are still winnable for KC. But I think Haymon and co are hosing him. 160 a bad weight for a Haymon fighter it seems. Makes me worried for the division and the sport, when the young 154s like Canelo and Charlos etc inevitably move up to 160 as they age... we still going to be looking at in-house only while ignoring most of the world?
