Peterson is gonna mop the floor with Matthysse

Peterson will clearly beat Matthysse. Im not gonna say Matthysse doesnt have a good chance to win because he does. Especially with his punching power. I just dont see what hes gonna beat Peterson with. He isnt going to knock Peterson out with one punch and hes not going to land enough clean shots to beat him into submission. If he doesnt put Lamont down a couple of times during the first half then he'll fall behind on the cards and lose a decision.

Why wont Matthysse be able to get his shots off and land enough to slow Peterson down? Because Lamont will take Lucas' best punch, the right hand, away. Petersons defense is sharp. Very good head-movement, bends down at the waist and good lateral movement/pivoting. Even tho you see him ckme forward a lot and bang to the body, Lamont is a counter-puncher. He bends in low at the waist, dips in and can take ur head off with the left hook or he can make that same move, dipping in but launching an overhand right, or just bang the body. He can slip punches at mid-range vs the fastest guys in the game, Ortiz, Khan, Holt. He'll be ducking Matthysses right hand all night, dip in, and rock him with that left hook counter. Matthysse tends to drop his right hand guard which will be a big no-no vs Lamont.

Matthysse can box ill admit, hes solid all around, comes in behind the jab, finds the openings and has good timing. But he doesnt do anything better than Peterson. He only hits harder and may be physically stronger but he doesnt set up his shots like Peterson, have as good defense as him, nor have we seen him in a situation of having to make an adjustment like Lamont or vs the same level of opposition as him.

All Lamont will have to worry about, is not backing up in a straight line, careful when throwing his jab cuz the way he steps forward with it could get countered by a right hand and smother/push back Lucas anytime gets pushed back to the ropes. Other than that, Peterson will negate Matthysse right hand by circling away from it, jabbing and feinting/closing the gap and smothering him. And once hes frustrated Lucas, he'll eventually catch him with a left hook, which he can hide very well and/or land an overhand right using the same move. Lucas wont know how to react to Lamonts smothering/inside game body shots and wont be so confident in that right hand once he gets clipped by a left hook. Peterson will knock him out late or win a clear decision***
