    On the scene.

An interesting fact in the Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson rematch is that both fighters will participate in a random Olympic style drug testing protocol. Olympic style drug testing is slowly being incorporated into major fights after Floyd Mayweather Jr. was the first fighter to introduce the testing procedure as part of the requirements leading up to a fight. Peterson-Khan II takes place on May 19th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

“I think my camp brought it up. It’s not that we think Khan is cheating or anything. It’s just that there are people who are out there cheating and they have new methods of cheating. And we do urine tests all the time so why not just take the blood tests and make sure everyone is safe in the ring,” explained Peterson.

Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto will be using random Olympic style drug testing for their upcoming fight on May 5th. Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz will also be using the testing for their upcoming rematch in June.

“[Again], this has nothing to do with Khan. It has nothing to do with him but just trying to take a step forward to where every championship fight goes this way and have to take blood tests” said Peterson.

Random blood and urine tests for championship fights is a good first step. Mitigating the cost and easing the fighters into it, then eventually making it the standard is a cool idea.

Yeah I don't know how/who's paying for the extra blood tests in the Khan/Peterson and Berto/Ortiz matches, but it's good to see this is happening more and more. AND it's the fighters requesting it, not waiting on the commission to update their standard.

It takes one step at a time and soon boxing commissions will take up the testing

How can people complain about more & more major fights having OSDT?

Its a good thing for the sport, hopefully it becomes standard procedure

OSDT can cost more then some fighters make for starters. Not everyone who boxes professionally makes a mint. A lot still have day jobs.

How is that different cycling, tennis, athletics, golf?

Only the select few make the big money most of the others make hardly anything, even if they ARE champions in their own right.

Thats not for fans to worry about, all we need to worry about is if the fighters we support and are paying our money for (in terms of PPV ) are winning their fights fairly.

If there was one major governing body, OSDT would be commonplace for championship fights. Every entity other than the NBA tests athletes regularly.
