Khan was on ringside the other week talking about how he'd do things differently in a rematch, however when Nelson stood up and they did a demonstration even Nelson pointed out that Khan's tactics haven't really changed. I'm picking Lamont to beat him inside the distance this time around, once Lamont hits Khan he will revert back to show boating "I can take a shot" ways and Lamont is gonna be much hungrier this time around, he won't stay on the outside and will have his head in Khan's chest from the opening bell, Khan won't become an inside fighting beast within 5 months, nothings gonna change and I think Lamont will stop him this time around. I say King Khan falls in 9 rounds.
Have you seen Dwyers predicition video on Khan/Peterson II? He basically makes the same point as you. And i've got to say I agree with you. I was thinking that Khan will get his game plan spot on 2nd time round, but i'm leaning towards Peterson to pull off the upset AGAIN.
I would like to see Peterson stop him simply because he Khan has acted like a complete ******* for months but in reality I see Peterson being robbed on the cards and then Khan and the rest of the shoulder deep hangers on telling us "justice has been done". I feel sick just thinking about it...
I'll go and have a watch, TBH Khan's prep sounds a right state and if he's not learnt from first fight he's in trouble. Peterson being a champion will give him more incentive in training, unless he's a Riddick Bowe type.
I noticed that. Even when Nelson was trying steer Kahn into what he'd do on the inside Khan was still just saying that he'd keep it on the outside, give angles etc rather than what he'd actually do if Peterson managed to get inside and work.
Dwyer made some solid points in his prediction video, and I think he could be right. Still think Khan will be too much for him though.
Khan would have to be a complete idiot to fight the same way as the 1st fight..........Hey wait a minute!
Just watched it.. That video sums up Amir's lack of in ring IQ, He seriously didn't know what to say or do. He was put on the spot and most of it was 'maybe fight him on inside' 'maybe hit the angles'. He's robotic and relies heavily on Freddy's command and planning, I do agree with him having to fight on inside at times he was right to say that to Nelson as well as using uppercuts but for the most part it seems normal service but fight back on inside if he gets there. Well Peterson's gonna get there so we'll see how Khan fights back...
I agree that Peterson will win the rematch. However, it's not true that Khan didn't answer Nelson's question and that Khan's potential tactics don't appear to have changed much. He actually did answer Nelson's question. Nelson just didn't bother to listen. When Nelson challenged him with what he'd do when Peterson comes close and throws those swinging shots, Khan said instead covering up and staying there, he'd look to duck and move more and hit him with angles. He also acknowledged and accepted the fact that he's gonna' have to fight him on the inside. Which is a good sign. He's not being ignorant this time round - thinking an outside game will be enough. He's looking and preparing for Peterson to be in bis chest. And he obviously didn't wanna' go into great lengths of what his plans would be. It'll be sensible to keep them under wraps for the time being.
Yeah he did, but once Lamont gets inside and starts tearing that body up again, Khan's tactics are going to fly out of the window, he's going to be leaning with his back on the ropes, letting macho showboating take over again, he's not smart enough to adjust in the ring like Peterson did in the first fight, plus Peterson didn't really work Khan out until the third or fourth round, he's going to pounce on Khan from round 1 and not give Khan any room to rush in and ambush him, plus Lamont will want to prove that the first fight was no fluke, he doesn't want any doubt whatsoever and he has just as much if not more incentive to win this fight than Khan. Basically round 1 of the rematch picks up where round 4 started in the first fight, but Lamont will be more aggressive and Khan will be able to do less work from range, that's why I say Lamont stops him this time around.
Khan answered Nelson about what he'd do to try and stop Peterson getting inside, he didn't really answer what he'd do if Peterson managed to work on the inside. There a difference and thats what Nelson was pressing him on.
Haha Roach is off with Pacquiao now so will anybody be there to correct things from the first fight? and will Khan have Roach's full attention? Personally i do not think Khan can fight any other way, maybe they have stuck with "if it's not broke why fix it" because he has been winning and wining well enough instead of trying to improve Khans all around skill set. Khan has been with Roach long enough to develope an inside game but it was clear to see he has not got one or maybe he is just not smart enough (in boxing terms) to learn that side of things. I still see Peterson getting robbed on the cards and then weeks of twitter quotes from Khan about "justice" and he is "on to bigger and better things" and telling Mayweather to "grow some balls".
What I like about this fight is I expect both guys to perform better than the last time round and that wasn't exactly a poor first fight. Still too far away for me to make a predictions though.
TBH fighting in the pocket is one of the hardest aspects of the sport, it doesn't just get developed over space of a few weeks. As for the slide and off to a angle, great but Khan's problem is when he gets entrenched in battle he loses form technically. TBH i kinda feel Peterson's display was overrated, at times he plodded around the ring doing sweet f.a. He needs to improve himself, getting inside without shipping punishment and cutting ring off with better footwork.
Kahn being slated as per. Can see Kahn showing inconsistency throughout his career but he was below par in that fight and wins the rematch IMO. Maybe it's because of large number of critics, but I think he has a tendency to try and stand his ground longer and show his strength rather than trying to box. Always respected Kahn since I watched him in the Olympics, unreal talent for a 17 year old at the time.
