Depends what you call " running " ? Peterson was constantly moving away from Garcia, but he also stepped back in range consistently, and peppered Garcia from distance before going on the move again. When you consider how many times Peterson has been down in his career, and with Garcia being considered a puncher, the fact that Peterson never blinked and was totally unmarked tells you all you need to know about who was landing and who wasn't. I am no Peterson fan, and thought he was shot after the Matthysse demolition, but his performance last night was top drawer, and he deserved the nod IMO.
Sure I saw during the fight that Peterson had only landed a handful of power punches by something like round 6 or 7 too. Almost every one of his clean, strong punches came in the last 4 or 5 rounds. Agree on the Garcia point though. He doesn't look the same fighter, I'd guess he must be killing himself to make weight the last few fights. Either that or he's just in decline.
Round 1: Garcia Round 2: Peterson Round 3: Garcia Round 4: Peterson Round 5: Garcia Round 6: Garcia Round 7: Garcia Round 8: Peterson Round 9: Peterson Round 10: Peterson Round 11: Peterson Round 12: Peterson 115-113 Peterson. Split the first 4 rounds. Garcia did some really good work from 5-7 and won those rounds. Peterson won the last 5 rounds of the fight and closed strong. Here's what we know. Garcia gasses and Peterson could have won clear if he engaged early. Garcia got a nice gift against Herrera and he got a nice gift here. He should have 2 losses on his record already.
