[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLe1m9rsd-c"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLe1m9rsd-c[/ame] I know to boxers it's nothing to lose 15lbs. But how the hell do they do it so quick?! I walk at 147-154. If I could find a way to cut and fight at 140 I'd be delighted!
The thing is that a lot of that weight doesn't hold on to their body. These guys haven't sat around for years out of shape so as soon as they start training the weight just comes off. They lose a lot of water weight as well.
He was 155 on fight night. He lost 15 pounds of water weight. To be honest it was probably a bit less but it doesn't really matter.
then how do you explain guys who sat around for 2 or 3 years out of shape and then got back in shape, like erik morales?
2 or 3 years for someone who has been training for 30+ years isnt that much really. Especially with the hard graft these guys put in
Because they know what they have to do to get back into boxing shape. The average guy thinking about working out thinks in terms of an hour or less a day, if that much. For boxers, it is a full time job to get into shape. Most boxers work out 3 times a day when in training for a fight. They don't think in terms of 50 push-ups or 50 sit-ups in a workout, they think in terms of hundreds, if not thousands. Frequency of workouts and intensity during them is what gets them back into shape fairly quickly.
Even if you dont work out/train you can easily shed the weight for a day. Water weighs a little over 8lbs per gallon and you can easily eat 5 lbs of food. When you are in training your body becomes very regular so you just need to not eat before the weigh in and also limit water intake prior. Once its over eat a full meal and rehydrate. I can easily fluctuate 10lbs not even really trying just running in the morning before eating breakfast. Granted I do weigh right at 200 lbs so its a lot harder to do when you weigh 155 but they are pros.
This is where I'm coming from! But both Khan and Peterson were tiring from rd 8 maybe a sign of making weight.
I lose 5lbs after a hard day of workout. With them they can lose 15lbs of water weight by not drinking, eating or take showers. 15lbs is pretty tough for anyone to lose especially for lower weigh guys still though.
It's not that easy to do and most folks not involved in boxing would never put themselves through that type workout or diet. Pro bodybuilders do similar stuff when preparing for a show with losing as much fluid weight as possible to better show their definition and make themselves look cut. But, you know, it's a lot more comfortable to fight at 140 than it is to fight at 155. The guys don't generally bang as hard at the lighter weights so that should be a pretty good incentive. Look at what Duran and Hatton did over and over in their careers. Both of them would routinely gain 30+ lbs. between fights and lose it in a few months of training.
It wasnt the training that brought him down to 140, it was dehydrating himself in the week before. The guy is in shape and cut at 155 ish, he weighs 140 for about 2 hours and then puts the weight back on for fight night.
15lbs in that timeframe is pretty easy for guys at this level. Remember, some people lose that just at the last hurdle with the saunas, steam room, hot showers etc. Thiago Alves in MMA weighs in at 170 but then comes into the ring at about 200!
