Amir Khan is a better boxer than Lamont Peterson. This b eing true than why is Peterson the new WBA & IBF Light Welterweight Champion of the world? There were times in the fight where you could tell that Khan is the better boxer. In cetan spots of the fight Khan was complety out boxing Peterson. However there were more times where Peterson was using efective agresion, and Khan needing to show that he can take a punch was more than willing to allow Peterson to tee off on him in the inside. Yes the points taken from Khan changed the offical result from draw to a Peterson victory. However, had Khan boxed more rather than tried to show that he can take a punch (from a guy with a 50% ko precentage). Amir Khan would still be the WBA & IBF Light Welterweight Champion of the world. Even with the loss of the two points.
Khan didnt want to be on them ropes, he just could do nothing about it. He was being pinned down and has no inside game, Khans been blueprinted tonight and any big puncher will finish him.
Agreed, he fought a stupid fight and underestimated Lamont. Khan wins a rematch though I think, and pretty clearly this time around too, if he actually sticks to his game plan and stays off those goddamn ropes. When the fight was in the middle of the ring Khan looked comfortable and was outboxing Lamont. This fight, to me, was the equivalent of Lewis-Mercer for Khan (except he ended up on the wrong end of the decision), a close fight against a good technician that could have gone either way, and a good learning experience for Khan. All the dicks saying he was "exposed" here need to shut the **** up, losing a debatable decision against a hometown fighter giving the fight of his life is nowhere near exposed. All in all I'm really happy for Peterson though, if anyone deserved it, it was him.
lol @ freedy roach tactics... lol i honestly think khan should have won even with the 2 point deduction a draw would have been acceptable then... but OMG roach gameplan BLOWS its all about running and 5 punch combos which dont land and with no pep .... then RUN then repeat a 3-5 punch combo and run its gay in my eyes and quite easy to blueprint i cant wait for a real welter to kill khan because of roach
Agree, bad tactics by Khan but I was surprised at how well Peterson was effectively pressuring Khan against the ropes, he fought like a man possessed tonight
Also, this just might just be my FOTY too, and Khan's second FOTY in a row now. Win or lose, I'll still be a big fan if he keeps putting on shows like this.
Khan fights for his the crowd "look I can take a punch". He looses concentration against pressure fighters. Next, like everyone said he has no idea how to fight create space for him other than to push i.e. no inside game.
Khan just seemed to spend most of the fight running away or holding. There were times when Khan was literally running around the ring and the ref was struggling to get away.
This might not be bad for Khan. If he wins the rematch which should be in Vegas he will be this exiting fighter who earned his way at the top. If last nights fight had been in England and it would have gone Khans way everybody would be screaming robbery and Khan would have lost lots of respect. Khan does not even have 30 pro fights yet. A little turf war at 140 might just make him better before moving to 147.
I can definitely agree with that, it'll land him in big trouble against a Rios type fighter. He needs to stop playing to the crowd so much, I mean it's fun as **** to watch but it gets him in more trouble than he needs to be in, and loses him rounds when he could be boxing more intelligently behind the jab.
Yup, like I said earlier this is only a minor speed bump and I'm not really too fussed about a loss like this. After all he only lost a close decision in a great, fan friendly fight. I think Khan improves even more from this and I still think he'll be in the upper echelon of the P4P rankings in about another 2 years.
