Right, this is something that has been bothering me for quite some time & I really feel like I want to try & do something about it.

We all know how hard it is to get a unified, undisputed champ & it's even harder to keep the three, or four if you recognise the WBO, belts together. Now I know the best option is to ignore the alphabet boys & just recognise who the general consensus believe is the champ but this is hard when you get pretenders holding "recognised" belts claiming to be champ & calling out other fighters.

This is, however, something I can tolerate & I think outside these three or four belts most boxing fans have learnt to ignore the other fringe baubles. What I cant tolerate is one of the oldest sanctioning bodies persisting with a stupid policy masquerading as an aid to unified champs when, infact, it is simply a money making exercise.

I am, of course, talking about the WBA's "Super Champion" policy. It's bad enough that we have more than one sanctioning body dishing out "world" title belts but when it's from the same sanctioning body it is beyond the absurd. I hate interim titles but this is even worse & stinks of greed from the WBA.

When Bernard Hopkins KO'd Felix Trinidad to unify the World Middleweight Crown he should have been lauded by the WBA but instead they esentially stripped him & let two less deserving fighters fight for what Hopkins had strived for for years.

Whats more annoying is that this ridiculous situation will continue. Lets say Wladimir Klitschko unifies all the belts, and we're all praying someone does, it still wont bring an end to the madness. Even were he to manange to fulfill all his mandatories & keep those belts together we'd still have another pretender running around with a WBA "regular" title pretending to be champ. There's every chance that man could be John Ruiz who, by the WBA's reckoning, would be a three time champion. Yes, nauseating isn't it?

This simply cannot be allowed to continue & us boxing fans should not be forced to tolerate such greed & absurdity. So can anyone who agrees with my opinion please tag a comment of support onto this thread & maybe, just maybe, Gilberto Mendoza may sit up & take notice.

Thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read this. Dan.

Brother - I am in full agreement with this Thread 100%.

This is getting way out of hand and because no one is doing anything about it - they will continue to abused their powers.

Good post. Why not disregard them all and just recognise the Ring magazine belt holder until they all melt away?

I read the exact same sentence for all the other sanctioning bodies just when they pulled another stunt. They are all the same ****. The underlying problem which causes that situation is that professional boxing isn't a sport in the first place anymore but an entertainment business and therefore all these crooks involved try to squeeze out as much money as possible. There isn't anything you can do unless things are changed drastically.

the Super Champion title allows the belts to stay unified. the WBA gives the unified champ "super champion" status so that he can be exempted from fighting WBA mandatories. Meanwhile they have 2 fighters fight for a "regular champ" belt so that all the fighters who have been striving to move up in the rankings don't see their efforts go to waste.

    it makes sense.

its actually one of the very few rules from the ABC ords that makes sense.

Also, if for some reason a fighter gets stripped from his other ABC belts, and loses his super champ status, then the regular champ has to fight him if he wants to remain WBA champ.

Sorry not buying that. How can you have two people holding belts from the same organisation, in the same weight class calling themselves world champion?

There are many other ways the WBA could aid unified champions. Not stripping them at the drop of a hat would be a start. Liasing with the other sanctioning bodies to order box-offs for the number one position would be another. They always claim to be striving for the good of boxing & claim to encourage unifications so surely this wouldn't be a problem.

Absolutely!!! As if having MULTIPLE organizations wasn't bad enough, now these groups have to starting handing out MORE meaningless belts. Frankly, I can't believe any boxing fan would defend this BULL****.

It's all about SANCTIONING FEES folks - these parasitic organizations make more money when they hand out MORE BELTS, so they make up more phony titles - interim, super, emeritus, etc. etc. etc.

They, and their meaningless titles, are a CANCER on this sport!

The orgs.....always a frustrating proposition. Thing is they give structure, PROBLEM is? Its misused and abused by ALL!!

Until there is one head and a serious effort on the parts of many nothing will CHANGE:-(

Wanna another WBA laugh? I recently noticed that Brian Minto is fighting for the WBA "federo centro" Heavyweight title?
    Brian Minto

Never heard of that one before:lol:

the whole reason we have belts is so boxers have somthing to cling on to.
while fans see the best fighters fight for it.

now if you split it by 4 and a half then you aint gonna see the same determination.

if i was to choose a boxing org that is better than the others i will shock surprise say the IBO:yikes: reason...they give it to the best man in the division almost no questions asked.

wheres the IBF AND WBC have a hate for one another and while WBA makes there own organisation in side and organisation the WBO change the rankings around and produce weak mandatories to create long reigning champions.

this is why i feel the IBO will suceed in being the best belt to keep quite soon no joke.

Now THAT'S a shocker. If true, that's gotta be the first time one of these parasitic orgs has actually ELIMINATING one of their unncessary titles!!!

Now, if we could just get rid of those silly "interim" belts..........:yep
