I've been reading rumors about this film (first named "Night Train") for a long time now, but it appears all filming has been done. I wonder when it will be officially released, i haven't heard anything about that yet...

Here is their website, and a few pics:

It's interesting how it takes an actor as old as Ving Rhames to portray the grim character of Sonny. He doesn't look too old at all; in fact, it seems like the kind of role that an actor under 40 would be incapable of. Liston had lived a lifetime of stories by the time he was in his twenties.

There is at least one source that has Sonny at 46 when lifting the title!

This film - pish, I bet. Though I'll be there with bells on. If bells are allowed.

Ving Rhames was pretty good in 'Undisputed' so looking forward to this. I wonder how 'realistic' it will be though. ;)

That would be mighty impressive, but don't most have him at his boxrec DOB?

I wonder how the film tackles the 'Phantom Punch'

I have an article where Sonny's 'real' daughter says she was 19 and that was in 1964, So Sonny was either 13 when she was born or a bit older. From what i've read in the past I always thought Late 1928 or early 1929 was most likely, but wouldn't be surprised if he was older still. Before the Ali rematch, Sonny said he was 31, a year younger than he stated before the Miami bout. :yep

From The Encyclopedia Britannica: "There was evidence that he began his ring career as early as 1934, at the age of 17, under the name of Charles "Sailor" Liston. If these statements are correct he was 45 years old when he won the title."

    Apologies for claiming "46".

Can't find this passage reprorduced on line, but here is an online page from the Encyclopedia tht lists his date of birth as 1917(?):

    http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/343374/Sonny-Liston#tab=active~checked%2Citems~checked&title=Sonny%20Liston%20--%20Britannica%20Online%20Encyclopedia

Like i said this is more than likely bull****, but there it is.

So am I right that at the least, most long-time boxing fan's would place Liston at 35 in '64?
