There have been several Occasions in boxing history where doubt has remained over suspicions of boxers taking a dive. Often this happens when they are felled by what is commonly termed "a Phantom Punch" where little or no contact appears to be made. The most famous example of this is the rematch between Ali and Liston after which Liston's inability to get up has been called into question over the past 40 or so years.

I can also think of Tyson v Seldon and Tyson v Mark Young in Mike's early career as other examples. I have actualy watched the young knocout on super slow mo about 1000 times and still fail to see where any contact was made at all. Guess it was just the thought of getting hit that knocked him out.

What others can you guys think of?

Hide is the master of going down from phantom punches unintentionally. The friction between air and glove is like a tornado on his chin

I've seen more than one of the complete "CANS" that would get in the ring with Butter Bean just flat out dive for the canvas. One I remember most, the friggin fight was actually on ESPN and Bean's opponent didn't even look like a LHW, and was givin new meaning to "dive". Teddy Atlas was goin off, must have said the word ridiculous 1,000 times.

The other I'm trying to think of, I'm pretty sure it was a young Hassim Rahman vs. Somebody, and it can be ranked very highly on the obvious dive list. I'm pretty sure this is on YouTube, seen it before, and it was covered by Versus Network if memory serves right. It was PATHETIC.

Tyson v Seldon, Bruce shut his eyes when Tyson threw a final hook, it scraped his head and almost missed, Bruce went down in delayed action, and later said to the commentators , That final punch rattled my eyes, it landed so hard, It musta rattled mine too Bruce, I actually never saw it either..

Herbie Hide only needs to be near a railway bridge and the wind will KO him. That is how glass-jawed he is!

Anyone who said that Herol Graham took a dive needs to watch it again, he was in hospital for a week afterwards. The only stupid thing was Joe Cortez starting a count.

Michael Gomez v Peter McDonagh. Though Gomez didn't actually take a dive, he just stopped fighting and allowed himself to be hit repeatedly.

The British Boxing Board of Control investigation concluded the fight was not fixed, despite at least one bookmaker suspending betting prior to the fight dur to suspicious columes of betting on McDonagh to win in the middle rounds.

One of the factors in their conclusion was that they said Gomez had simply decided to retire and didn't want to fight anymore. That's why he's had four fights since then and fights Amir Khan next up....
