thats not how you spell champ, theres definitely no u, n or t in it. My phones playing up hence this...
I was rewatching mundine vs dowling yesterday, are you phil austin the referee in that fight? And if so would could mundines corner jumping prematurely into the ring not have disqualified him?
I am indeed the same. In short in answer to your question - NO. The fight was contested under ANBF Qld rules, which does not call for the DQ of a fighter if cornermen enter the ring; only not to allow the contest to continue until the cornermen have left the ring. It also would have sucked for natural justice don't you think? A bloke is winning every second of a fight and then get's DQ'd for that - reminds me of Mayweather-Judah with a ring invasion that was so much worse (Mundine's cornermen got one foot inside and then got straight back out when they saw what I was on about - that Dowling was getting up and the fight was not over). Common sense has to come into it - even if it wasn't clearly stated in the rules no DQ, I wouldn't have sacked the bloke over it
Don't know the specifics of the fight being discussed Phil, but in a general sense, what an easy way to buy your fighter some time! Forget bodgie glove tape that comes off 5 times in the course of a match (team Mundine), or slitting a glove (team Ali), just have a cornerman jump in the ring and run around for a few minutes!
Hardly think that counts here mate! He had just dropped his opponent and it was the third round in a fight he was doing it easy - way to give your opponent more time to recover if you ask me! He hardly ran around the ring: He got one foot inside and then got straight back out when he saw I was right in that the fight was far from over. If a cornerman had done it to gain an advantage he would have been in deep poop
As stated: 'Don't know the specifics of the fight being discussed Phil, but in a general sense......'
