Both fighters lasted 10 rounds before being stopped by the referee against Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez. Both have defeated two Japanese champions in four weight classes: Phumelela Cafu defeated Kosei Tanaka in a very close decision, and Fernando Daniel Martinez defeated Kazuto Ioka twice, also in close decisions. Who do you think is the number 2 best fighter at 115 lbs (Super Flyweight) right now?
cafu. puma is not hard to outbox. thats why i said bam would make it look easy. he has 1 gear and one approach. deny him the inside and he is helpless. bam could have won last night without getting hit at all, pretty much. he just wanted to beat this guy up, so he pressured, which game puma the distance for a chance at landing.
Martinez imo. Simply, much better performances. A slight, controversial win over Tanaka surely isn’t as good a wider win over Kazuto Ioka. I just think he’s performed better. As for who the second best is, probably either Teraji or Martinez imo
This, 1000%. Anyone who says otherwise is doing a disservice to Bam. Martinez is by far his most impressive win, and his skillset tramples that of Cafu, who he'd walk right through, like he did with Dumezweni. After all, Ioka destroyed Cafu's best win, which like you said, was controversial at best, at worst a gift. The Japanese love robbing their own fighters. Not only that, but both of his matches against Chauke were gifts, as was his win over Libranza.
