    Gents,

Scorecards, judges or politics, who cares.?.? Nobody is gonna convince me that Roberto Duran lost to Hector Camacho back in 1996 on a fair level / basis........ YES! Duran started slowly and fell behind of Camacho early, however, by round 4 I saw Duran come alive and get his ass in gear and take the fight to a retreating Camacho..... Camacho looked soft and winded mid-way through the fight at the weight of 160 pounds....

I know goddamn well Camacho only got the nod from the judges because of a probable 'Ray Leonard' comeback to stir up emotions and publicity in the world of boxing for 1996 / '97..... After all, nobody gave a rats ass for a 4th fight between "Leonard & Duran." But "Camacho-Leonard 1" seemed feesible at the time......

Anyway, the reason of this thread is, I thought Roberto Duran looked great at 157 pounds at age 45 in 1996 against Hector Camacho... Duran never again found that eye of the tiger for the remainder of his career, which by the way would again be against Hector Camacho in 2001.... However, by '01, Duran was aged 50 yrs and a bloated 164 pounds compared to the 39 year old Camacho who was just much better tuned an spry in 2001....... Yes, I agree, Camacho beat Duran fair and square in the rematch....... BUT! That is NOT the overall point here....

My point stems from Duran and Camacho of 1996........... DURAN WAS SCREWED!!!

I agree Duran was robbed and it wasnt like it could have gone either way Duran WAS ROBBED!! He won that fight by 2 or 3 points. Every one that i know who saw that fight thought Duran pulled it out.

Christ....... Duran's showing against Camacho in 1996 saw Duran truly turning the clock back a decade or so and kicking some serious ass...... The decision was horrid...... Duran got a colon cleaning by the judges.... I am still heated about the decision to this very day...... Word..

Which makes the statements that Duran was washed up when he fought Hearns 12 years before in 1984 a little ridiculous. I saw this fight also. Duran looked good in 1996 against Camacho and his right hand was landing.

duran may have been a little out of shape in 84 (at that time he was out of shape for every other ****ing fight) but he was at a good weight class for him and it was a stylistic nightmare for him. the duran that fought hagler in 83 was PRIMED and ready and still would have got his ass beat by hearns

Because Duran looked decent against another washed up fighter in Camacho doesn't mean he wasn't washed up.How many God awful fights did he have in between? At that point in his career,at best,he was a C level fighter capable of occasional (or even rare)good performances against C-D level fighters. That's about it.

I have to go and watch the fight again myself, but I don't remember Duran kicking Camacho's ass. With each of your post, Camacho is getting a worse beating and then you offer to copy a tape (VHS) for another poster. Your eyes are as old as the VHS. Rememeber, the fight does not change just because you keep rewinding it and watching it over and over and over.....VHS, sorry that was funny to me.

he was fighting some decent guys on USA network at the time. Hearns fought once on USA network also against Earl Butler. But Duran was still fighting ok in the 1990's. Not like he did in the 1980's, but decent. I thought he would give Joppy a better fight then he did.

You just reinforced my point.1 1/2 years after Duran was robbed against Camacho,he got the absolute **** beat out of him by Joppy. And he wasn't fighting "decent" guys.He was fighting C-D level guys that no one would have paid attention to if they weren't fighting Duran.

Look.... I thought that fight had a great atmosphere to it..... Roberto Duran was 11 yrs the senior of Camacho..... Duran was never as spry as Camacho was, but packed much better power.......... Camacho did start fast and clearly won the first 3 rounds with speed and movement, but then Duran at a lean 157 pounds got his ass in gear and began chasing, hitting and hurting Camacho to the head and body.... By round 10, Hector Camacho was in retreat looking for the final bell....... Even Al Albert, Sean O'Grady and Ray Leonard all felt that Duran had come from behind to pile up enough points to secure a decision over Camacho in 1996........ Duran was screwed.... 'Nuff said...........

And yes, I have a major collection of fight tapes stemming over three goddamn decades, so therefore I still have a use / uses for VHS tape....... I also happen to like it........ I hate DVD freeze frame and locking up, etc....... Discs' are not perfected just yet........ I hate when someone sends me a disc and the picture freezes or skips.......
