Just a few decades ago, Marciano was constantly cited as being one of, if not the strongest heavyweight champions. The coming of George Foreman, Lennox Lewis and the Klitschko brothers has changed that, but on a p4p basis, Marciano just has to be one of the strongest and most well conditioned champions of history.

I don't think Marciano would have been too much fun for Johnson personally.

I'd say Foreman. The man pulled jeeps and lifted cows. He was also pushing a prime Shannon Briggs around the ring at age 48.

he is said to have bench pressed 500 pounds...having said that...Rahman was going to do mma....and i can tell you that had he been taken down..he would have found that strength to do him little good against some BJJ guy

All things considered, he didn't win many fights in boxing on sheer strength, either. Raw strength will only get you so far in any form of combat if you don't have the technique or skill to back it up.

Let's not forget Primo Carnera who had the most powerful muscled body. And before he became a fighter he was a Strongman in a European circus...

He never seemed too effective at impossing his strength in fights however (maybe the Sharkey fight?).

many of the old time fighters were likely stronger in clinches than fighters today..as they often wrestled in training camp up until the 1930s.

When you do little physical activity for a span of 6 years and over indulge it would most certainly diminish your physical strength. After such a long lay off there's no telling exactly what you'd be able to get out of your body and this is particularly compounded and then some when you take into account Jeffries went straight in to face, perhaps the greatest and strongest fighter walking the Earth at that particular time.

Shavers I've heard was very physically strong, he was a farm boy too. John Garfield said when he shook Shavers hand he thought he was gonna lift him off his feet, or something to that effect.

Louis seemed to have no trouble pushing Carnera around.
