Never stated Jeff was not in the best shape he could be in when he fought Johnson. He was eons away from what he was in his prime and there were those at that fight who watched Jeff in his prime who stated as such.

Acording to primary sources Jeffries scaled 220/230lbs when this photo was taken,29th October 1909].

BTW.The fight as signed on August the 11th 1909 two months prior to this, which was essentially a photo opportunity to bang the drum. So your feeble sally is deflated.

No, what you stated was that I was attempting to smear him.

I've provided proof for all my assertions, if only others would.:-(

What I mean't in regards to Jeffries was his diet. Drinking a glass of a water or two a day and eating two little lamb chops while doing all the training he does, he really is a genetic marvel.

Jeffries himself said how little food a big man like himself could survive on.

Fullmer, Tiger and the like have already been mentioned, so I'd like to mention the British lads of the 70's/80's: Minter, Sibbo, Kev Finnegan and Graham. All physically very powerful. I can think of a few other Brits too who were ox-like strong at their best: Buchanan, Curvis, Monaghan, Kane, Welsh, Driscoll, Paul Ingle etc.

Sugar Ramos was an absolute tank at feather. Saldivar too.

Rose wasn't really a big puncher, as such, but he was a massive bantam and physically very powerful with it. Manhandled Harada with ease at times on the inside. Fenech was a brute too, as far as bantamweights go.

Hector Thompson looked as though you couldn't hurt him with a blunt axe. His fight with Cervantes - who was arguably just as strong despite his very different build/proportion - is probably p4p one of the top fights ever in terms of combined physical strength in the ring for any one fight.

Rodriguez held his own up close with one of the most powerful welters ever in Griffith and was able handle middleweights too without much bother. Had that lean, long-armed grip that tangled opponents up and was extremely difficult to throw off.

Of recent years, I don't think Calzaghe gets enough credit for how strong he was. He didn't really seem to have an impressive physique, but I can't ever remember any opponent having any success trying to physically bully him. Bika rolled at him like an armoured tank and tried everything to make the fight a dirty, ugly, draining, gruelling one. Well, he succeeded in making it dirty and ugly, but physically he couldn't make Calzaghe take a backward step he didn't want to. I remember Hopkins trying his trademark flat track bully rough stuff too and quickly changing his mind.

Putting together a pretty physique and being in top fighting form are two drastically different things.

See Ray "Six Pack" Leonard v Hector Camacho.
