Is there a fighter who in your opinion stylewise would trouble or flat out beat an ATG?
I'll start with two picks...and I'm not really venturing to far out on a limb really...
Charley Burley over Ray Robinson...I could see this occuring (and I'm a huge Robinson apologist)...Burley is a troulbleman for anyone in and around the middleweights...
Luis Rodriguez over Ray Leonard...Rodriguez is extremely underated, and quite frankly I'd pick him over more than a few greats. No one talks about Luis much...that's a shame. One fantastic fighter...
    Any guesses out there?

Angott would and did beat Pep. And I'd bet he'd beat any similar defensive stylist -like Whitaker. He had the definitive "spoiler" style.

Well, nut-hugging aside, Whitaker was at his very best against the pressure fighters and rough stylists. It was those fighters he excelled most against.

The reason was he fought off the backfoot, while Pep fought used more lateral movement, side to side, relying on his upper-body movement to weave in and out of harm's way, which is why Saddler had his number as well. Those types of fighters were able to tie him up because he stood within range, and thus neutralize his style. Not the case with a fighter who fought off the backfoot and like Pernell.

Also, I've heard reports that Angott's own boxing skills and jab gave Pep more than enough trouble as well, not just his dirty tactics.

Very interesting. I've seen snipets of two Angott fights...one with Robinson, another with Zivic...Angott was very aggressive early with Robinson and throughout (it looked) with Zivic...Angott was very physical...problematic style for sure.

I liken Angott to a Ricky Hatton with better defense. He's near impossible to keep off, and unlike Hatton, he's hard to tag clean and so he'll pose a problem to any fighter that isn't extremely resilient and well schooled on the inside.

Sammy would beat any defensive stylist that didn't have a great inside game. Unfortunately for Sammy, Pea did, and he'd hold his own whilst being 'clutched'. On the few moments the fight would be conducted on the outside, Pea will be master, and will walk away with a tough 9-6 or possibly even 8-7 type decision.

    I hope this isn't a serious submission.

Alex Arthur has good fundamentals but lacks the staminia and chin to be competitive with someone as good as Pernell.

He must be something if he'd have a great chance against Whitaker without hardly even having had a fight at lightweight.

    Tell me more about him...

Alex Arthur was knocked out by a man called Gomez, who was nothing more than a journeyman. In arthur's last bout, which as seemingly catipulted him onto the world stage, he had to get off the canvas to defeat a man who will never make it past european level competition.

Whitaker would stop Arthur early on.

    He stopped Willie Limond...

I'm trolling here entirely for the benifit of Sweet Pea. But you've pulled me up before he came back.

Going to see Arthur next time out I think, against Guzman in Ediburgh.
