Also, does anyone remember Lennox's second tune-up after losing to McCall? He went against 11-2 ****** Fortune, who was 5'9. Had a very fragile jaw, all of his losses were TKO's. He was game, though, and it took Lennox four rounds to get rid of him. And this was with Fortune coming at him every second of every round, all aggression. Honestly, looking at that fight and the Ocasio match you could argue that smaller fighters presented far more problems, stylistically, then super heavyweights, whom he seemed to love preying on. Hard to say considering literally 95% of his opponents WERE Super Heavies, though. Maybe there was a actual reason for that.
I think Spinks at 190 would have been a better Heavyweight than he was at 205. At 205, he didn't look in great shape, and looked like he just ate his way to that weight. At 190, he would still have the speed and akward style to give Lennox load of trouble. Even so, I don't think he could win, but I'd give him the best chance because he was also long and a great boxer.
There isn't a lightheavy that I think would beat Lewis, or even come close to doing so. Spinks would have been really awkward, but once that right landed, it would be over. Holmes hurt and nearly dropped him a few times with the right, I can imagine what Lennox's would do to him. Foster didn't have the chin at heavyweight to survive Lewis's power. Neither did Jones Jr. Charles might have a shot, but I think the size would be too much and he would get caught.
Spinks would have the best chance based on how he fared against Holmes. Maybe someone like Harold Johnson as well.
No one sub 200 would really have a chance to beat Lewis but perhaps the best chance would be... Gene Tunney. Very, very fast, crafty, quick on his feet, sturdy and enough clout in his punches not to get steamrolled.
Not a good fight to judge Lewis on as everyone knew the eventual outcome. ****** never hit Lewis with anything meaningful and Lewis controlled the pace until he felt totally comfortable unleashing the finishing shots. by the by, ****** is a successful trainer now and funny guy.
Why do you think we have weight classes, and not height or reach classes? You ignore that little bit that it the most important in boxing. And you didn't answer my second question, even if he falls 25lbs short, was it a world class fighter? I hear he's so successful that his name is being censored now.
Fitz weighed 167 for Corbett[184],as Fitz said to his second, prior to the start,"I'm still a middleweight ,well let's see wot appens"
You didn't design it to be hard, you designed it to be impossible. :yep P.s. i think Valdez' record against contenders is something like 1-7.
