Without even thinking twice about it. I'd have to go with Smoger, but the man doesn't leave the East Coast. So keeping that in mind...I'd say Weeks or Bayless, but I'm leaning towards Weeks. Just because of the job he did during Chico vs Castillo 1.
I hope it's Steve Smoger because he allows the fight to flow without much interuption and doesn't stop fights prematurely which will give Warrior fighters like Cotto and Margo the opportunity to fight back and recuperate even when really hurt but something tells me he won't be refereeing this fight :?
I see a lot of votes for T. Weeks. I like him as a judge but I fear that he tends to step in a bit too early more often than not. A lot of people are basing their opinion of Weeks on the Castillo-Corrales I fight, but you can just judge him off of that one fight. There have been a few other times that he steps in a little early. There are a few who posted on this thread that no what I am talking about.
Anybody but Cortez! He interfiers way too much now! As soon as the fighters go inside, he jumps in, instead of letting them fight it out.
Steve Smoger ... he's going to let them fight and isn't going to stop it prematurely ... someone is going to have to get knocked out for the fight to get stopped. I think Smoger is a perfect fit for this fight.
Keep Tony Weeks out of this one, IMO he dropped the ball a bit in the first Castillo Corrales fight, He allowed Corrales to get away with spitting out that mouthpeice not just in that last round but leading up to that round as well, in addition Corrales was also allowed to be given instructions just before he pulled out the un thinkable, something that is not allowed to happen when a cornerman is giving his fighter back the mouthpeice. Not saying he did a very bad job, but in a fight like this you just want a ref in there to enforce the rules and let the fight take its course, Bayless is the man for the job this time round
I dont' think there should be a ref that strict on rules ... you need a ref equipped for a slugfest ...
Nobody is saying being strict, what I am saying is enforce the rules period, every fighter deserves the right to be treated fairly by the ring officials they have atleast earned that much going in.
