Same day weigh ins,I’ve mentioned it for years !
Then at least it’s a level playing field as the fighter with the most money has the benefit of people in his team that are able to manipulate the weigh in/access to Substance/peds far more than a fighter that does not have the finances or the team behind him. At least then fighters are actually fighting in the Division they are supposed to be in and not in some cases where come fight time they actually weigh in divisions above were they are fighting at. Same day weigh ins will weed out the weight bully’s as well as making them fight in there TRUE weight class !

Same day weigh ins. They created weight divisions for a reason. Now we have fighters campaigning in the same weight class who look like different species by the time they climb into the ring, one weighing 1, 2, 3 or even occasionally 4 weight classes more than the other.

Periodic weigh ins in the lead upto the fight week isnt a bad idea either. Monitoring stages of weight loss. Ensures fighter is within a certain percent of the weight limit. I'm more concerned about hydration then weight bullying

    100% asterisks everywhere.

Endless list of possible deck stacking: Aging opponents out, draining, weight bullying, fighting guys that are inactive (Crawford fighting Spence for example who had 1 fight in 2 and a half years).

So far the poll in General is 18-5 in favor of same-day, while Classic is near unanimous (10-1).

    Agreed 110%

Weigh the fighters every day for 5 days straight including the day of the fight. The "ceremonial" weigh-in with the press can still be the day before, for fun. But the fighters should need to make weight all 5 days in a row including fight day.

Whatever the weight limit is eg. 147 pounds NEITHER fighter should weigh more than that limit on fight night
That would put paid to all the weight bullies. The post earlier that claimed regular weight checks up to fight time, would help has an excellent point too.

Same day weigh ins (about 3-5 hours before the fight as I believe it was) and perhaps some weight checks closing into the weigh-in.

36+ hours to rehydrate is ridiculous.

I've not seen any really coherent or enthusiastic arguments here or in Classic for keeping what has become the status quo (day-before) - the cynic in me wonders if all on the boxing community feel the same way and the reason we do this really boils down to nothing more than putting hype & marketing above safety? :shakehead:

And those 5 in favor of day-before have not given any type of explanation of why.

Well you're about to get one and a reasonable highly logical one at that and no, this isn't just me being a contrarian, this is genuinely how I feel.

Day before, keep it the way it is. While sure the day of would cut down on weight bullies. But ultimately, is that that much of an issue in the sport? Most fighters make weight and then rehydrate to a relatively similar amount for fight night. So because they'd need to be healthy and fit going into the ring on fight night, they'd have to fight at their usual rehydration weight. Which would end up forcing countless fighters to fight in weight divisions that they're simply not suited for and ruin several careers in the process. Think about it, Inoue rehydrates up to 130-135. Now sure, this would also force Gervonta up to 147 or even 154. But there will be a few guys that can make 135 comfortably, that are way bigger than Inoue and they'd be at an unfair advantage. So the reality is, in an attempt to weed out weight bullies, this would simply end up creating a whole new class of them. An excellent example, it would force Spence to fight GGG, after all they both rehydrate to around 170.
