Which smaller fighters would you pick against Mike Tyson? Let's say that he shoulr have been clearly lighter (at least around 10 lbs) than Tyson on average. The obvious answer is Joe Louis, but I'd like to see different options
I give Jack Johnson a slim chance over 15 if he can use the Holyfield blue print and avoids getting hit by too many bombs. I only give him a 20-30% chance though, Tyson is just so incredibly dangerous and Jack has gotten hurt by guys who didn't have as much power and speed as Tyson. But...if he does manage to avoid getting stopped, he could win a close decision or pull off a stoppage if Tyson gasses out trying to get him out of there. Maybe a 15-25% chance of victory. Frazier Could pull it off if he managed to make it past the 5th. Big if tho, he tended to be vulnerable early. But man, if Tyson doesn't put a stop to the smoke train, he is gonna be in for one long, painful war that he might not win. Tyson never had to deal with a phone booth fighter who relentlessly stepped forward and dug into the body. They would smother each other's punches, but the difference is Frazier would be right at home and would know how to get leverage. He also has a clear stamina advantage. I give him about a 35-50% chance to drag Tyson into deep waters. About a 30% chance at victory. Gene Tunney I give a tiny chance of pulling a James Quick Tillis type of win his superb footwork and fundamentals. Maybe 20% chance of making it the distance and a 10% chance of pulling off a razor thin decision. It largely depends on Tyson's condition and motivation. If he is 100% focused, angry, and in shape (like the Holmes fight) I give Tunney zero chance at all. That's about all I can think of for fighters under 210.
Holyfield was taller so won’t count him. Marciano and Frazier have a chance (50/50 for both imo). Key is who can control distance better and can they make it past the 6 round. James Toney would be an interesting fight as well.
Frazier and Marciano are the only ones. I believe that Bonavena and Bert Cooper would hold Tyson to a tough one, but couldn't beat him.
I thought Liston was 212, and Tyson was 218 on average. I'd also say Holyfield at his best was between 200-210.
