I see a guy who looks like a cartoon. I’m sure he was something because his record supports it but I find him a bit cringeworthy , like an actor playing a boxer in an old BW film. It may also be a bit because of the lighting at the time of a few of his bouts.

Wow. I see some pretty high level stuff, feints, angles, leads, counters... I guess God blessed us all with our own set of eyeballs.

I guess some don't like the old school upright posture. For my money I agree with you Seamus. Been a fan of Steele for years.

Steele is great, but looks better in some of the other footage of him is the point, Dundee looked absolutely terrible, but explanation in the previous post accounts for that.

They, both of them were obviously much better than that Footage shows is the point.

Records prove it, and Dundee's not having a Hard Fought Fight with Conn in 1937 at the very end of his career if he weren't.

Yes, Steele has looked better in other footage I have seen. Let's be honest, this is sloppy. He looks kind of unpolished here, but you can see the great athletic qualities his career was built on.

    too Big, not a MW.

passing through the division as a young fighter doesn't make him one... Conn was what he was, which is a L-HW cum HW...

Today, he would certainly be a MW cum S-MW, yes. but not then and never before the last 40 years of the sport.

He had a pretty impressive record against some very solid competition fighting within, or very close to, the 160 pound class.
