For me, my ten choices would be: Joe Calzaghe Oscar De La Hoya Felix Trinadad Georgie Abrams Ceferino Garcia Betulio Gonzalez Nassem Hamed Carlos Hernandez Peter Kane Ken Overlin
No one has ever satisfactorily explained the criteria for the choices, it's a popularity contest that no longer has any relevance or import.
Surely the criteria is in the title, thus it is fame that is the primary criterion? That is the only reason, I can think of as to why some are in the IBHOF. So although not listed I think Butterbean and Wepner should be put in the IBHOF.
Its beyond worse than a popularity contest. Some guys get in simply because they are still alive and willing to go to the induction so that the Brophy family that runs the Hall can cash in on their appearance and have them sign a ton of memorabilia that can then be sold by the Brophy family. Its pretty worthless. Once again Mike O'Dowd is nowhere to be found... When Norfolk and Billy Miske get in before O'Dowd something is wrong.
There is nothing wrong, it is there to make money, nothing more. Thus more people are going to buy packages for the Weekend if they can meet Butterbean, De La Hoya or Naseem, than if they are going to meet representatives for O'Dowd.
I'm ok with the first timers: Joe Calzaghe Oscar De La Hoya Felix Trinadad Am a bit hesitant about the next line of fighters: Naseem Hamed Harry Jeffra Sammy Serrano Wilfredo Vasquez Back in the day I liked Joey Archer very much. But if I recall correctly he did not win a title. Johnny Bratton should have had more wins in his career but his jaw wasn't as tough as it should have been. Ah, I'm sure someone else can put up a better list than this one.
That blows the lid off it then. I'm sure I would like walking around, enjoying spotting former champs, but how can anyone take the whole thing seriously?
