It seems like Briggs is in his best shape in a while, and claims he's going to take some chances. My best guess is Vitali uses his superior mobility, jab, and smarts to win the first 4-5 rounds without risking much. If Briggs rushes in early, he will find an intercepting right hand. Vitali is pretty hard to hit. He made a quick handed Johnson miss plenty of times with his jab. Arreola who hand plenty of energy could not catch up to Vitali. Briggs chances of landing something serious or matching Vitali footwork or stamina are rather slim. Briggs has a puncher's chance only, which is diminished because Vitali has a top level chin, and will not be a stationary target. Once Briggs shows weakness from punches or lack stamina, look for Vitali to open up his offense. Briggs seems to be pretty durable. He hasn't been stopped in years. If Briggs lands hard stuff early, and plays to conserve his energy in the mid to later rounds, there is a chance Vitali will opt to play it safe and take the win on points. Best guess, Vitali via 9th or 10th round TKO, with Briggs pretty much being out of the fight by round five. Post your picks, or comments here.
Depends how old Vitali got. If he got too far Shannon has a shot. I don“t think so though. Vitali in 6-7.
This fight is a joke. Briggs has fought four rounds since being beaten by Ibragimov in 2007, at a pitiful level of competition. Calloway, 11 losses, lost 3 of his last 4, KO1. Alexander, 8 losses, lost 2 of his last 4. KO1 Pedro, 8 losses, lost 3 of his last 4. KO1 McGee, 17 losses, lost 2 of his last 4. KO1 later changed to ND1 because Briggs was caught cheating. Basically, this is a joke fight. If you can start a thread on this fight in classic, you can legitimately start a thread on any fight happening anywhere. It's pitiful. It's more embarrassing than Sosnowski. My opinion is, who cares?
Stlylistically its a little interesting, what channel is it on? I like that Shannon looks like hes training his ass off for it
It's on Primetime over here. You'd need to be gike to cough up IMO. The only reason i'll watch even in retrospect is if Vitali turns out to be done and Briggs lands the hail-Mary.
I'll agree with that. People are going to be interested in the early rounds. Since Haye, Valuev, or Solis won't fight Vitali right now ( Solis vs. Austin will be the mandatory ) Briggs is the pick. People know who Briggs is. Like it or not, he is a former lineal champion, and 2000's alphabet title holder who can really punch. While Briggs did not earn a shot by beating a top contender or even fringe contender, he has a better chance than Arreola, or Johnson in my opinion. In fact you could argue Briggs has a better chance than Valuev. Fans should be happy that a 39 year old champion is staying active.
I was talking to Shannon a lot before he left for Germany. He knows what his chances are, and we talked strategy for the fight. Im hoping he gives it a good effort. Vitali is there for the taking and Shannon punches very hard. Hes got to get to Vitali early, the longer the fight goes the bigger problems hes going to have and I think Vitali is going to be very defensive early on giving Shannon more chances on offense if he pushes the fight. I'd like to see Briggs pull it off, but its a tall order for him, hes not been a consistent professional really his entire career.
Probably the same thing every other time Shannon claims he'll bring the fight....Sergei and Sultan come to mind. He'll be offensively inactive after a few rushes, and Vitali will paintbrush him all night and force a late round stoppage. I'll watch it though. :good
