What is it with old super heavyweights? Briggs tired himself out reacting to klitchkos feints, he was a sitting duck all night because he couldn’t trust his gas enough to put a forward attack together. I want to see a lively heavyweight swamp the klitchkos with work rate. Nobody is going to beat vitali throwing one punch at a time.
You must have keen eyes to be able to detect his attempts to evade punches. :rofl Yeah, I figured he was trying to slip punches in round 4 that Vitali had thrown (and landed) in round 3 ! :yep That's how shot Briggs' reflexes and defence was. Pro since 1992, he still cant fight. He was about as cagey as a tree stump. To bring some relevance to this thread being in the classic forum, Briggs says Vitali's the best man he fought, better than Foreman, better than Lewis. :think I think David Haye (and maybe a couple of others) would be 50-50 to take Vitali now. He'd be trouble by any real degree of youth, speed and talent now, and his punching power is mediocre.
Briggs's defense has always been horrible, consisting mostly of him trying to roll with every punch, now he doesn't even have the reflexes to do it successfully. I was surprised that the man who didn't last beyond four rounds with Lewis and Wilson went 12 rounds against Vitali while catching a merciless beating. Then again Vitali has never been that big of a puncher in my view, certainly not the puncher that his brother is. He just breaks you down over the distance.
I agree with these defences being bogus but if klitchko isnt the champ who is? Its annoying seeing him get a full house with exhibition material dressed up as a world title fight but i recon he needs to stay busy. I am not a fan by by any stretch but it is what it is. this guy and his brother are the best out there at the moment.
Well, obviously it was a joke fight going in. As I've said repeatedly, Holyfield would be a better opponent than Briggs. Briggs is more like a "Holyfield opponent" (2010) than a real challenger for the WBC. But this is what the heavyweight division is these days. Wladimir has been respectable the last few fights, but even he's up against a nobody next time out. And Haye's up against Audley friggin' Harrison. I've learned to love the farce of it all. Boxing, heavyweight especially, is embarrassing itself with the whole host of jokers. It's not just one man and his fighs. The whole thing is a mess. Valuev was a bigger joke, quite literally. Within two years I wanna see an 8 foot, 400 pound champion from Mongolia give Tony Tubbs another crack at the world title. And a minimum age of 40 for world title challengers.
vlad is beating the beter guys but vitali is still "the man who retired the man" and has been unbeaten ever since the lewis fight.
I agree 100% Unforgiven :good Its sad, 15yrs ago you would never have been so certain about the outcome of a fight
The poor poor heavyweight division. Sure reinforced one thing, ko percentages don't always tell the story.
