Picks on Vitali Klitschko vs. Shannon Briggs.

Briggs had completely the wrong gameplan, he should have threw everything he had from the opening bell, rather than placing himself with a horribly low punch output, which reduced his chances to zero. I will say that Briggs showed plenty of heart though, as he took a sustained beating.

Worst Heavyweight division in history? Probably. :verysad

 

I guess those Germans are a polite people?
Briggs would have won if his corner were allowed to curse freely!

 

Vitaly is an all-time great. He dominated another hapless opponent today. Or as the people who say Marvin Hart beat Jack Johnson would say: Briggs beat Vitaly because he "tried."

I hedged my bets between a decision win and a late stoppage-

 

As usual Briggs was more talk than substance. I'm out of town so I didn't see the fight but I heard Vitali was smart and rather than go into a shell he made a statement in the first round and stung Briggs pretty good. Since he made it the distance I guess he just wanted to survive after that.

Like i said you can't be a part time fighter and expect to win a title. He should have known this and gone for broke it was his only chance to win but you never know what goes through a fighters head once he gets hit.

 

I wonder what the powers that be were thinking ,when they made this mismatch in the first place ?

Briggs had 4 fights with nobodies in the last 3 years yet he was fighting for the title?
