Although I'm not proud of saying this, I'd target the jaw. I'd see any injury in my opponent and begin attacking it, and not just in boxing but in life in general.

When you're in a fight you aren't supposed to feel empathy, you're supposed to destroy the will of your opponent and you can best do that by attacking and targeting their soft spot.

Why would you do this when you can stop them and secure the win for yourself?

If you're worried it could end their career and you're a club fighter I can understand the attitude but if we are talking about a fight on HBO or SHo with everyone watching and huge payday I say go for the spectacular stoppage. It just looks better and makes you more marketable but it also makes other fighters fear you.

Don't you want to break another man's will in any context? That is what fighting is about.

These guys are just talking out their asses. Next they will be saying, a fighter gets a nasty cut over his right eye and out of the interest of fair play they would only target his left instead:lol:

Get real man, this is boxing.

The Abraham fight should have been stopped. What people don't understand is that a broken jaw can end a career. John Lewis Dickinson quit after a broken jaw and it almost ended his career - Had he fought on, it certainly would have ended his career. It's just a stupid decision to fight on throughout such a severe injury.

Most of these boxers who people mention when talking about a broken jaw, only had hairline fractures. It'd hurt, of course, but they weren't swallowing blood or in danger of having their career ended. Abraham was, and should have been pulled out, and maybe Ortiz was too.

    You have a point.

But what AA did(with one of the worst looking broken jaws I have ever seen) ensured himself a warrior status.:smoke

Ortiz just doesn't deserve that status anyway and he proved it again.

People sayin they dont have the guts to punch someone in their broken jaw but what if your down on the cards and thats the only way you can win by targettin their jaw, you gonna not hit them then they win and you lose a payday which feeds your family, so ull be choosin your opponents health over your family, man up pussys

That's true, he showed incredible heart. I think the doctor did him a disservice though because that fight should have been stopped. Not only was he losing massive amounts of blood, his jaw injury could easily have ended his career. People always point to Abraham as proof that Ortiz should have continued but the fact is, Abraham is the exception and not the rule. Most fighters who suffered a jaw break like Abraham would have had the fight stopped immediately by the doctor and assuming they did carry on, many would be forced into retirement.

Like I said, John Lewis Dickinson came very close to never fighting again. Had he continued in his bout instead of pulling out, he would have retired without question. Fighters can very rarely take that sort of punishment and fight on.

How funny it is that AA, despite having proven he isn't a elite fighter, is getting so much credit for something happening thousands of miles away from where he is right.

What does the fact that he isn't an elite fighter has to do with him getting credits ? Does it annoy you that AA gets credit ? Are you a hater by any means ?

ppl seem to forget that AA quit in that fight. it was his promoter who wouldn't let him. the ref dropped the ball by allowing that fight to continue.
