He was better than the vast majority of fighters Williams fought. It is a good win for Williams.

Ted was better than lousy. Cleveland Williams beat mostly lousy fighters.

Wilder will win the fight against time. He'll still be champion in 2120 and undefeated in 1,043 bouts

Only Louis and perhaps Rex Layne but I don't see how its a bigger problem for him legacy-wise than Ali and Holmes not facing quality opponents as big as Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko.

Ali's only ranked opponent over 220 lb is Joe Bugner

The picture I posted of The Rock is the day after the Louis fight. His right eye is a mess. Guess what hand did that damage to him?

Your box-reccing isn't very impressive. Ali beat an ATG champion in his prime who weighed 220lbs...

Along with Wepner, Mathis and Lewis

Ted Lowry was a crafty guy and weighed about the same as Marty Marshall who broke Listons Jaw. and if your going to tell me Liston was young and green so was Rocky fight 1

I guess you know Big Cat did not have an impressive resume in the pros if you are quoting kind words from sparring stories for a fallen fighter.

Big Cat had 31 wins when he fought Bob Satterfield (Satterfield was already KO'd by Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, Rex Layne, ) but he took your Big punchers best shots and KO'd Big Cat in the 3rd rd- Big cat was out cold for several minutes-

Bob Satterfield was 5'10 and 178 lbs and took Nino Valdes best and dropped Big Nino in the 10th round for a 9 count-

Big Cat was a big muscled guy but not a big puncher in the professional ring-Its a MYTH- I'm not impressed ...also not impressed with Nino Valdes he lost to 5'10 175 lb Harold Johnson and lost an elimination for the title fight to Archie Moore - then was given a chance to be Marciano's 50th fight but lost badly to 5'10 178 lb Satterfield losing his credibility and marketability

Liston was fortunate he did not face big punchers because Ali's right hand made him quit in fight 1 and take a 50 count in fight 2 - was it his heart?-his mind? or his chin? and yes he was old vs Leotis (who was not a tremendous puncher but he had Sonny out cold for several minutes

Hey Bummy you didn't answer my question. Did you in fact watch the Martin VS Liston fight? A simple yes or no will suffice.

Thanks, but I've read it before. If you remember, I'm the one who showed you that article after you repeatedly claimed that Williams was in training for another fight when he got the call to face Satterfield. Your idea that Williams could have been in line for a title shot is based on his own manager talking him up to the press, claiming that "if we get lucky" he could be ready for the likes of Valdes and Jackson and Marciano "may" fight in Miami in the winter and "maybe" Cleveland will be the logical opponent by then. No one was taking it seriously.

And it turned out I was right. If a fighter is on a 10-20 fight a year schedule anyway they are training full time and can take fights on short notice. They train for the season not just fight by fight. The week before a fight a fighter tapers down and won’t do open sparring anyway. If he fought just one week earlier the previous fight represents the hard sparring. He was doing plenty of roadwork because he’s still in full time training. One technical sparring session and he’s ready to go.

And that’s why I said “the hope was” it would lead to a title fight in Miami. The hope. Big Cat Williams the boxer was a heavily invested business project. His career was perfectly planned and tailored for a step up name opponent at just that point. A name guy 20lb lighter 1-2 in his last three fights was too good an opportunity.

Especially not after Satterfeild knocked Williams spark out.

You see it your way I see it mine. And that’s fine.

But ask yourself why this really is the only time you guys favour the smaller guy going into a fight with an opponent who is 1-2 in his last 3 fights, who has been knocked out 10 times already, going against the 20lb heavier 33-1 muscular prospect with a knockout reputation?

Usually A guy like Williams fits your bill any other time.
