me and my mate have often wondered why some trainers pinch and pick at the back of there fighters necks and shoulders whilst they are getting told there instructions pre fight by the ref

the only possible reason i can see is that it may increase blood flow to that area (and to my knowledge i know the neck to be sort of a "shock absorber" to heavy blows sustained by the head)\

    can anyone shed some light?

I always thought they were just loosening up their muscles via massage? never thought of it as pinching

prefight/staredowns are very intense for fighters. It can tense you up if they get caught up in the moment. Rubbing the neck helps keep them loose and relaxed.

Elerbe rubs Floyd's neck because rubbing his **** in front of a worldwide audience would just be plain rude.

no it stimulates the nerves back of the neck which increases blood flow to the brain, hence quicker recovery, but more blood flow to the brain means more oxygen
