"Pink Thomas-Tim Spoon" was a 1984 snoozer WBC title fight in my book...

    Folks,

I'm making a copy for a dude who needs "Thomas-Spoon" of '84 for review... Regardless if its Thomas' big night / win for the WBC title, I still think Tim Spoon boxed like his tires were flat that evening he blew his title to Pink Thomas on HBO... Nothing thrilling really happened during the 12 rds boxed / fought..... Thomas had his jab going as Spoon boxed with extreme caution.... Spoon didn't seem to own the eye of the tiger that night... WTF? His life was on the line...

Who else saw and thought this fight was a sleeper / yawner as Thomas took the title from Spoon?

Bump...... I realize the fight stunk, considering the anticipated hype in the summer of '84, but C'mon, leave a comment.... Where are the Thomas and Spoon fans at???

"Holmes-Coetzee" is what I wanted in June 1984, but for some gottdamn reason the production went to hell....... Holmes went on to TKO Bones Smith in Nov. and Page got some undeserved shot at Coetzee in Africa and parked Coetzee in round 8 in Dec. of '84......

Pinklon wasn't that special, outside of his jab, and this fight isn't an all-time classic, but I don't rate it as badly as the OP.

Basically, Thomas shined; Spoon stunk.......... Odd too...... Spoon had just beaten Page over 12 rds for the belt and was on a mission for that WBC title win..... How come he was so timid against Thomas...????

I thought it was a lousy fight at the time but whatching it recently I enjoyed it! spoon was in good shape and started well, looking the better figter untill pink just kept beating him to the punch with one hand. spoon swiftly lost his mojo and seemd to battle with himself to try and fire himself up after that. Tim was fighting two fighters that night the lazy side of himself and pinklon thomas.

Spoon boxed Thomas in '84 as if he left his fight in the gym.... Spoon was flat......... Thomas was well coached by Dundee that night....

I thought Thomas's jab was excellent...that was the focal point of the fight for me.

Douglas-Tucker was an even worse 1980s world title fight. 9 rounds of nothing and then a pathetic finish.

Well, the biggest 1980s heavyweight title fight "Letdown" must be awarded to "Tyson vs. Bones Smith." On paper it basically indicated someone could be killed in that fight.. Come fight night in March 1987 the event proved to be a match of holding, hugging and posing for photos.... That is probably my earliest recollection of ever hearing Larry Merchant whine across the air-waves that the fight on hand is a stinker and that the fighters themselves were rippin' off the public with such lousy performances that evening....

Been watching a fair bit of 'Spoon lately and yeah, this next to the 2nd Bonecrusher fight was probably his worst performance in a big fight.

Yep, that fight was a huge disappointment. I think there were about 10 seconds of real action and that wasn't until the end of round 12 when Bonecrusher actually tried to win.
