    Who wins this

Holmes was slipping and Thomas was prime.

I think Thomas outjabs Larry, works the body and possibly stops Larry late if this was scheduled for 15 rounds.

If I had to bet, I'd pick Thomas by UD.

By all standards, Pinklon Thomas should have beaten Larry Holmes in 1984-1985. Especially when we look at some of the slipping performances Holmes was having around that time.. My hesitation however, is that Pinklon didn't have very many fights at or near the top, and was somewhat inconsistent. Losing to Trevor Berbick within close proximity to the suggested time frame leaves a few questions in my mind. Regardless of who would have taken it, I'm guessing that it would have resulted in a very close ( and probably controversial ) decision one way or the other.

Holmes ducked Michael Dokes and pinklon Thomas. Holmes had a poor defense against jabbers and he knew it.

I need a definitive Thomas performance. He's got a great chin but that lazy jab coming from the waist doesn't impress me. I can't see him beating Holmes. I've only seen a few of his fights though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll watch the Witherspoon fight this weekend. I saw the Coetzee fight, the Berbick fight, & one really early one. Other than those, I knew him best for the Tyson fight & a few after that.

Thomas would have battered Larry at that point.

Pinklon Thomas had a very challenging jab, it is probably the second best of all time after holmes

Holmes was an ATG hwt. Thomas was Not. Holmes does what ATG fighters do and finds a way to win over 15 rounds. Very few could outjab Holmes and in a battle of jabs my money is on Holmes who never lost that great jab well into his 40's. Holmes by decision in a close bout.

Dokes at best had a decent jab, not great, and Larry would probably win a close one against Michael. But Pinklon had a very strong jab, and in that length of time, would win a unanimous decision.

Watching Thomas & Witherspoon now. The thing that I keep noticing is how Pinklon drops his hands while punching & after punching. It looks like his hands are too heavy or something! Not literally but he doesn't hold them up well & he stands pretty straight up. The jab looks hard & he seems to be a decent puncher. I'd still go with Holmes but then it's early in the fight I'm watching.

At that stage of Holmes career pinky could have won a close decision but I think Larry might get the nod in a tight controversial fight .

pinklin had a very strong jab, good, sturdy boxer. But Holmes was in another league. Pinklin was very similar to Ray Mercer and an old Holmes schooled him
