Agree with this. BTW, did Dokes even have a prime? :think

I thought that Thomas fought a very dumb fight against Coetzee though. Made what should have been a cakewalk into a nip and tuck affair.

    Before 1983 - Dokes
    84 to 87 - Thomas
    88-91 - Dokes

Yes, with both guys at their best and tons of cash on the line this is an incredible match up.

    Oops!
Um... Through January through May 83, draw. June through December, Thomas. :D

No way can Pinklon fight a fifteen round draw with Dokes during that time.

Watched a few Thomas fights recently and I'm going with Dokes. Thomas had some very good wins but he was a pretty basic fighter. Had an excellent, stiff jab but I don't think he would use it enough to disrupt and overwhelm the faster, smoother Dokes for enough rounds to win. I could see Dokes taking rounds by ambushing him with flurries.

Think dokes might take a close points verdict hard to pick a winner.nice to see haye pays tribute to Mike Dokes with Mike D haircut very touching.

As you're a Brit you might remember Dokes taking out John L Gardner.

I enjoyed Dokes' speed, but if you look at their common opponent, Coetzee, you know who will win. Thomas pours it on late and wins UD / KO

You have basically said exactly right, here.

Dokes does not have the wins to justify the nostalgia he gets. Most of it comes from putting up a hell of a fight against Holyfield. Beware of fighters defined by a loss.

All of that being said, the real answer is that, while Thomas was better, the guy who won would be the guy who stayed the most sober during training.

Yeah, that's probably the better call.

Prime for prime I'd pick Thomas

Dokes is faster and moves better

Thomas has a better jab and power

Both are hittable and have solid chins

I think conditioning may play a factor as this will go to the late rounds

Both had drug problems but Doke's got worse just as he entered his prime, whereas Thomas quit drugs before turning pro and was clean during his absolute prime.

Dokes is overall more talented but it won't be enough

    Thomas by late rounds tko.
