I really don't think this is a tough one to decide. Thomas is stronger and in better shape. A peak Thomas would win a fairly easy decision over the overweight Tubbs. The only advantage Tubbs has is speed, but I don't see how that will help him here. Thomas UD, maybe Tubbs can get a draw on one card, but I see it getting no better for him. Thomas' offense is just to impregnable for someone like Tubbs.
If Tubbs was in shape, I would say Tony by UD. His boxing ability is better. But as William mentioned, Pinklon was in better shape, a little better jab, and better power. Pinklon by UD, or possible late round stoppage if he catches Tony consistently.
I must put in, Thomas is not full-proof obviously. He was an 80s fighter, and Tubbs was pretty successful as well.
I’ve never seen a fight where Thomas had a high work rate. I think unless he catches Tubbs with a big shot, Tubbs wins a decision because of his speed.
I like the Pinklon of 1984 who outboxed Witherspoon to win a decision over 1985 Tubbs who beat Greg Page. I think these were the two best versions of those guys. Any other variation of these men and it’s up for grabs. I will say however that Tubbs aged better than Thomas did. Had they met in 1991 Tony would have easily beaten Pinklon
