Thomas, another "what if" of the 80's. In a couple of fights he was very, very good.

Pinky's shotgun jab would have given Larry trouble.

Pinklon Thomas and Greg Page were both avoided in the latter part
of Holmes hw reign. After Holmes struggles with Carl Williams it was
a wise move by a old Larry.

Larry actually completely shut up shop after the Witherspoon scare. In an ideal world it would have been a great time to retire, leaving with an unbeaten record and not worrying about Marciano's record.

Holmes was like Hagler in that he lived his career in another charismatic fighter
shadow and got more recognition after he retired. Holmes bitter comments about
the Great Rocky Marciano did him no favors . However like an old George in his
2nd career ( over 40 ) he seem to mellow.

Pinklon had an ATG chin. He was only knocked down once in his entire career

True that, though his early comp was not as strong as some of his contemporaries.

Amazing that the guy accomplished what he did being on coke, heroin, and sometimes homeless. Again, just imagine if he tried.

Pink was a one armed bandid. His jab although hard didnt touch Holmes as far as speed accuracy the amount of times thrown and landed during a round using it both offensively and defensively judging distance and in Holmes case setting up a whipping right cross. Theres good jabs ( Thomas ) then theres great jabs matter of fact I'll call it top tier one of a kind jabs that very few fighters possessed and that's Holmes. Look I dont what's in Larry's head and I dont know if he avoided Pink Page or anyone else. What i do know is Larry started showing signs of slipping by 83 and slipping fast but to suggest he avoided a consistantly fat flabby out of shape overrated Ali impersonator in Page is a stretch to me. A long stretch. As far as Pink. Pink was a pretty good fighter. Good not great jab. Not much of a right hand. The type of guy Larry would box circles around.
Holmes is a top 5 ATG HWC. What are Page and Pink. I dont see what some of you guys do but were all entitled to our opinion.
I'll edit in that I'm glad hes doing well as I was a fan as Holmes career was winding down

Extremely good heavyweight over a 3 year period and possibly the best of the bunch for a year or nearly two. At his best he was a step above Witherspoon and possibly Weaver. Inexperience and confidence cost him a bit against Coetzee who himself was fighting at a good level.

Best performance was a comprehensive outpointing of peak Witherspoon and his stoppage of Weaver was extremely impressive as well.

Highly recommend anyone wanting to suss him out to start with the Witherspoon win, then Weaver. The other 2 to load thereafter are Tillis and Coetzee. He was past it by Tyson but still put in a fine effort consider the level Tyson was performing at.
