Hell, yes.... Margo is actually bigger and stronger than Pipino Cuevas was at 147 pounds..... Both guys are kinda' sloppy at times, but Margo could easily fight at 154 pounds and be fit and solid...... Cuevas was a natural 147 pounder who had NO luck at all over 147 pounds...... Plus, Cuevas was stiff and slow on his feet..... Margo breaks Cuevas down for a late round TKO...... MR.BILL:bbb
Antonio's chin has never been cracked by someone who hits as hard as Cueves. Im not saying he couldnt take his shots but Cotto is not the pure puncher Cueves is and I dont think Cintron is either. Just food for thought but I would side with AM aswell.
it all depends .. cueves can bang .. margarito can hang ..it'd be the inmovable object agianst the inmoveable force
Margarito's style of trading punch for punch with Cuevas would be devistating for Antonio. The power would be too much and wear on Margarito. Cuevas by seventh round TKO.
It depends wether Margarito could stand up to Pipino's bombs as he is there to be hit. I remember Cuevas at his peak prior to Hearns and he was awesome leaving a trail of broken eye sockets and jaws in his wake as welterweight champ.
I dont think the human body is equipped to deal with sheer concussive force of a Cuevas bomb. Whilst its hard to picture Margarito getting hurt...its probably harder to picture anyone walking through a prime Cuevas without a lot of damage. I think Tony would need to call on all of that limited but still existent ring generalship to make sure he wasnt letting Pipino land a 50% clip on him....I still lean with AM, ever so slightly.
It's impossible to say what would happen if Cuevas smashed a left hook onto Margarito's chin. Cuevas, Hearns possibly aside, was perhaps the biggest puncher in the welterweight division of all time. It might be similar to the Jackson vs McCallum fight where Julian cracked Mike with a huge shot and visibly wobbled him but didn't floor him. I like Mararito on points assuming he can live with Pipino's power. We also have to give Cuevas a little bit of respect. He did make 11 successful defences of the WBA Welterweight title in a time when there were only 2 organizations and when the best fighters usually fought each other. If it hadn't been for Hearns, Cuevas would probably have fought Leonard in a superfight.
Because a man who hits hard enough to break training equipment, eye sockets and cheek bones can't hit hard enough to do the same to another human being.
Margarito is easier to hit & has about half the power of Cuevas. & a prime Cuevas had a sturdy chin himself.
margo aint a piece of training equiptment. cuevas made his career of beating up mediocre comp in defense of the wba belt. margo is on another level. end of story.
