Overrated how? If he lands one solid punch he could win the fight, as that's all it takes when talking about punchers on the level of Trinidad and Cuevas. He's hardly outgunned, simply facing another top tier offense who would likely have an advantage in size.

I'm not saying that Cuevas has no chance, but he certainly shouldn't be favored.

Offenses are not equal here. Trinidad was honestly one of the best offensive fighters ever.

Cuevas was an awesome puncher, but purely as an offensive force there have been many better.

I feel you. Cuevas for me has superior accomplishments at welterweight between the two, though you can obviously give Trinidad extra credit for his climb through the weights.

They were both knocking guys out in the first few rounds during their respective welterweight primes, the difference is that Cuevas left a trail of literal smashed jaws (broke his opponents in back to back fights... how many fighters can say to of done such a thing?) and opponents. He was basically Trinidad before Trinidad and I can't see your assertion that Trinidad is necessarily that much better of a fighter. Cuevas may not have had a particularly long prime but he was an elite fighter for a brief period of time.

This is more or less exactly how I see the fight most likely unfolding. Could also see Cuevas blowing him out early but if I had to bet on one outcome it would be this one.

The peak that Cuevas hit was a devastating peak and represented a horrible stylistic match up for Toto. Peak for peak, I'm taking Cuevas.

Everyone has their own opinion about this fight...As an old General once said....."You win the battle by getting there with 'First-est, with the Most-est' ".

IT's weird how people think Trinidad had a soft chin due to getting knocked down a lot. He had balance issues more than anything due to the way he set up his punches, his chin was just fine at 147.

That being said, I can't see how Cuevas escapes with a victory, especially against a prime Trinidad from early to mid 90's who wasn't the one dimensional, left hook only fighter who fell in love with his power later on in his career. Trinidad eats fighters like Cuevas up for breakfast, I don't see any fighter in history at 147 winning a fire fight with Trinidad, Cuevas included.

I see Trinidad grinding Cuevas down, hitting him in the dick a couple times till he's soft and ready for the KO.

    Hi everyone,

I reckon Trinidad is definitely a bigger guy than Cuevas, he is definitely a better all round boxer as far as having a better jab, better counter punching skills and better feet and he also kayoed middleweights so he could really punch himself. That would be enough for me to put my imaginary moolah on him in this one.

Cuevas has the proverbial punchers chance but my hard earned would be on the Puerto Rican. I don't remember anyone ever beating him by brawling with him or out punching him.

Tito's weakness was against movers and good boxer-punchers not guys like Pipino.

    Cheers All.

It's close - But, if I had to bet, I'd bet on Cuevas.

I think Cuevas might look to close the distance early and force a fight on the inside (I don't recall Trinidad ever seeming really comfortable at close range), from which he delivers a cheeky left hook. A bit like Yori Boy Campas did - but, with the capability to finish him off and end the bout.

Would be a great fight.Tito was the more versatile fighter but cuevas was a machine .Would become a fire fight ! I lean towards Cuevas but it could go the other way

Cuevas was a monster but when he moved up in class he was exposed .. Tito is a huge jump up in class in my opinion ..

He didn't really "move up in class" as he met a much larger, primed fighter who possessed the worst possible style for him, after Cuevas' own best form had begun to leave him.

Was Duran "exposed" when Hearns knocked him out in two? I never got this argument to discredit Cuevas, which has always revolved around "Well, he lost to that Hearn's guy, right?"

Prime Pipino was a human wrecking ball breaking heavy and speed bags and
bones. Tito was good but not elite. Would be a see saw battle before Pipino
aggression and power prevails. Pipino by stoppage in 10 rds.
