Pipino Cuevas vs. Felix Trinidad

Good excuse. I remember Angelo Dundee mentioning that during the commentary, but regardless Hearns was too quick. .

The thing is Trinidad was one of those fighters who is easy to drop but hard to stop. He needed to taste your power before getting off. Felix holds more aces in this match-up imo. He was a marathon runner and it's hard to get the better of him in a shootout.

 

i don't think its trinidads power that wins him it. just his ability to get the punches from a-b incredibly quick and has a good counter-punching brain. coupled with cuevas's open defence and wider shots.

cuevas id pure poison for some but if i would choose a fighter to beat him it would be a fighter who had size,strength, speed, and ability to fight on the inside with some aggression and spite.

 

Whoever lands the left hook first.

Tito got dropped alot, but was rarely hurt like most have said here, but Tito never got hit with a punch anywhere near as powerful as Cuevas'.

 

Anyone's game. Tito usually gotdropped in the 2nd and came back, but was never hit as hard as Cuevas could.

I'd go for Tito to win an epic 3 rnd shootout: more refined, better all round fighter.

But an early K.O for Pipino; totally feasible.

I'll go with Tito as well i think, better boxing overall at his best. I think his punches were a mite shorter and crisper. Not sure who has the speed edge too, but I'm thinking it's trinidad.

 

Cuevas was ruined by Hearns - He looked invincible before that fight, afterward he lost half his remaining fights by KO and some of those to journeymen...

In his prime he took a good shot and he could destroy anything he could hit. Could he hit Felix? yeah I think so. Pre-Hearns Cuevas I would favor slightly over Trinidad. Either way judges get the night off - someone gets counted out!

 

Trinidad would, in my humble opinion, need to be warmed up to the task of tangling with Cuevas a bit better than those celebrated victories of his when he was decked early only to come on to win by ko. An early clocking by Pipino would have been a very dangerous deal, to me. If you're a tad vulnerable to being put down early as tito was, Cuevas would have come on like a lion...he was waaay too dangerous for that. If Tito was to establish himself early, he would have stopped Cuevas by a brutal tko in 4 or 5.
