Pirog was damn good fighter

 

This. Jacobs is still the same fighter he was when he fought Pirog and Ishe. He still is a sucker for a consistent jab and can be easily pinned against the ropes. He is a good fighter, but last night showed how limited his boxing ability is if he doesn't lead.

 

It might've been his normal self, but was it his "best" self? I'd contend that because of that tumor on his spine, he was not operating at peak performance at that time. You pit two elite level competitors together, anything below optimum can mean defeat for one. He was ahead on the scorecards, but that cancer was probably slowly sapping his strength throughout the fight. Just months after this match, he literally had to crawl to answer his door. People seem to underestimate the effect cancer can have on a boxer, a high-level boxer at that.

 

There was was no way that Jacobs was leading that fight. Pirog was landing the cleaner shots, showed the better defense, and landed perfect right hand to finish him off. Was Jacobs not at his best? Possibly. I am just saying we should keep the record straight because Pirog was simply the better fighter whether Jacobs was at his best or not.

 

Pirog was a beast, I've not changed my opinion of either fighter - its tragic Pirog's career was cut short. I was definitely very aware that had Jacobs not faced him, his career would have looked much like Golovkins in ways.

That was a really good fight last night, I would have HATED to have been responsible for the decision - I'm not as quick to call it a robbery as some, I'll leave that to the Gonzalez loss which is the first time I've been legit thrown by the judges decision in a long time.

 

Yeah, Pirog-Jacobs was something else and I think it was Pirog's last prime fight too, after that he looked a bit less fluid. But in that fight he was an absolute beast, I remember being totally shocked watching it, he made Jacobs miss like entire 4-5 punch combos just by his headmovement.

 

Yeah but it's hard to say that Jacobs was worse or better, based on what is that quantified?

 

That Jacobs KO must have been one confusing assault for him, guy's feinting to the body and to the head with the right whilst switching stances not only once but twice all with the same movement.

 

Just a massive cause Pirog was mighty good and different to all the other Russians/Eastern Europeans in that he styled himself on an American style I believe?

 

Jacobs fight with Pirog has no bearing on the fighter he is today. Totally different fighter, then and now.

Yep! His style was far more american than russian.Thats for sure! However,his style was really unique in a way that I have never seen an American fighter constantly roll his shoulder like he did.Anyway! Health knocked the American-Russian out!!!!!!!
