Frank Martin has a fight this weekend on pay-per-view versus Tank Davis. I can’t say I’ve ever watched him fight while Davis has a résumé that leaves a lot to desire. He is a talented fighter with lots of power and his Ryan Garcia win looks a lot better after the Haney fight, obviously there were weight issues, but let’s not let that derail the discussion I’ve bought most of the pay-per-view’s that have happened this year and I am not sure I am interested in this card. I do think the supporting bout is very interesting but I don’t buy based on undercards I watched three rounds of one of his fights from 2022 yesterday and can see that he’s a southpaw which might be difficult for tank. He appears to be quick and have decent reflexes. He doesn’t look to have fight changing power and I didn’t see enough to grade how well he takes a punch. I know it’s nobody’s job to convince me to buy a fight or educate me on a fighter, but does anybody give Martin a shot? Is he a credible challenger. What fights should I watch in the next few days if I wanna understand his ability and gauge his chances?
A good fighter no doubt, might be one of Tank’s toughest opponent as a matter of fact. He’s basically a southpaw with good fundamentals that throws fast, well placed combinations to the head and body. Power isn’t really a problem as he tends to do plenty of damage when he’s on the offensive. What is a problem though, is his lack of urgency. He has a habit of just coasting through fights without much desire to knock out his opponents or set a fast pace. This is actually a big deal since that’s the kind of thing that Tank feeds off of. Probably why he was picked in the first place tbh.
Good fighter in the Sergiy Derevyanchenko mold, basically someone you expect to be competitive but ultimately come up short. Getting some questionable scoring if needed.
Nothing to pitch really, tank does everything better than frank. The guy started boxing very late and got by on sheer athleticism and toughness. At the highest level of boxing that simply won't cut it, you will see tanks amateur pedigree shine just like it did against rolly where he can easily out think these guys and see them coming a mile away. All respects to frank though he's tough as nails and I am sure will give it his all.
The PBC won't let their biggest cash cow right now lose when they're in dire straits currently. Frank can't win, PBC won't let him. I wouldn't take the bet personally, Tank fights always seem like stank fights to me.
He's a more durable, slicker, bigger, heavier handed version of Hector Garcia, who with fair judging, was shutting Tank out 1-8, before the stoppage in the 9th. Can Frank go the distance for the honor of getting viciously robbed... absolutely!
I agree with this. This is actually the 1st time Tank has fought a guy with the quickness and athleticism that Frank has Goin for him. If Martin can take the shots up top and to the body without wilting, its Goin to be a long night for Tank.
