Well Im from cuba, and Ive always been a boxing fan, So i plan to start a boxing school in the next 3 to 4 years, I currently live in the Cayman Islands so it will problably be located here, I know about boxing, about skills, and techniques so the knowledge for the sport is there even tough im a basksetball player (college level) I would love to be able to help out kids who want to be professional athletes, and be somebody that they look up to. If I start the boxing school, the tariner will be my brothers father Juan Terry Hernandez who is like a father to me aswell (he is currently still in cuba)0, He was a boxer from cuba who is now a trainer over there, he knows personally all the olympic medalist from cuba from Savon, Stevenson, Gamboa, Kindelan, Solis all of them, you name it, he used to train guys like Alfredo Duvergel (Olympic Silver Medal) and many other, so the last time he visit the island i told him about the idea and he is with me on it. So a good, experienced trainer will be there, and what better place to get a trainer that from Cuba ? Well guys i hope this works out great for me as i look to one day producing a world champion. I would really appriciate ideas, and things i should worry about, and opinions
I would delete your uncle's name from a public message board if he's still in Cuba - if you make defection intentions public, Fidel's people will be watching over him like a hawk...
Nah men no defections, he can come to this island with no problem, nothing wrong, hes been here a bunch of times.
I have no idea's or suggestions but good luck, kids can benifit alot from learning the sweet science. I wish you great success.
I salute your efforts and wish you well!!! It seems you have some very experienced help and knowledge available, so they will obviously set the tone. The best thing it seems you could do is set up a nice gym with equipment and facilities. Try to keep the environment up beat and STRESS conditioning heavily, especially with newbies!! Dont let them spar until they are in decent physical shape.
Thanks for that men, the last time he came here, he was giving the oportunity to train at the local gym for just 3 days, by the 3rd day alot of people were quiting because of the hard training and preparations he used to make them do, he told me thats how you prapare kids at a young age in cuba... thats why they turn out so good, and if they coudlent handel that...then boxing wasent for them, he was going to see who was really made for this in just those 3 days, hes got some pretty cool traning techniques up his sleeves so it will be fun, alot of boxing starts in cuba respect him as a trainer
Man If I lived there I would be there in a heart beat. Too bad im stuck in miami. I dream of learning to box from the real deal(cuban trainers) Anyways, good luck with that man. I'm proud to see a fellow cuban trying to bring up a gym.
