Personally, I have no use for guys who talk **** or act cocky, but personal feelings aside, I have to give it up to these two guys. First, to Sonnen. Silva isn't washed up, he isn't overrated; don't denigrate Sonnen's performance. He had a fantastic gameplan and used it marvelously for 4 1/2 rounds. The man, like him or not, is a ****ing cardio machine. He backs up his bravado with intense effort. He lost, because he just didn't have the mindset to rest his head on Silva's chest for two minutes and ride out a victory. He intended to beat up the Spider for 25 minutes and leave no doubt that he's the better fighter and the true champ at 185. It's not the smartest choice, but it's one that I have a good deal of respect for. Second, to Silva. He got dominated last night, no two ways about it. Sonnen was the better man, but Silva deserves credit for showing that while he acts like he'd rather be anywhere else than in the cage sometimes, he's a true fighter. He got the stiffest challenge of his career and stuck it out. Sometimes, you need adversity to bring out the true definition of your character and Sonnen provided it, and Silva showed it. Last night served as a lesson, to any fighter in MMA or boxing (for that matter), that you have to fight in the moment - not lingering on past mistakes or worrying about possible future ones - and take what the moment gives you. Silva hung in there, got his chance and made the ultimate use of it. It was a hell of a fight and it does the sport and these two men - as *****(ly) as their personalities may be - a strong disservice to allow what was accomplished last night to be overlooked because personal feelings of animosity cloud one's judgement.
You could have just said that Sonnen was one of the most decorated wrestler to step foot in the cage. And currently the best MMA wrestler on the planet. He didnt do it with cardio alone, he is that good! and had he trained MMA right way like Randy did, Silva will leave in a stretcher. Theres a reason he is saying he is the BEST! Oh well he'll always have his Silver Medal like he says. Props to Silva though, he found a hole and he capitalized.
