Yeah that ref was ****ing horrible... Molina won alot of rounds but Kirkland was coming on strong! I really wanted to see the last 2 rounds.. :verysad
Normally I would agree, but besides the ending the fight was BORING AS ****. Molina slapped and held, over 100 times in the fight. And Kirkland was somehow unable to fight him off at all. I could go 100 years without seeing that fight again. Keith
You've been yapping on about the "rules". Answer me this, was the DQ mandatory or was it up to the ref's discretion?
Too much holding for my taste but I feel Molina deserves a re-match just because of the way he lost the fight! It was kinda harsh..
agreed. really wish the DQ wouldnt have happened. so we could see those final rounds. i think Kirkland would have made the comeback of the century.
Mandatory. The rule actually says during the round OR during the count. and the word DISQUALIFICATION is all CAPS. There is no discretion. The only thing the ref can interpret is whether or not the corner entered the ring to stop the fight (TKO) or ANY other reason (DQ). Keith
From: ABC_REFEREE_GUIDELINES 11. CORNER STOPPING THE BOUT It is strongly recommended that if a Chief Second wants to stop the bout, he or she is to inform the Inspector who will in turn inform the Referee. Entering the ring during a count or the bout and interfering will subject the corner’s boxer to a loss by DISQUALIFICATION Sticking to the letters of the rules, discretion could probably be applied by the ref as to if the corner man was really interfering or not.
Its not a bull**** DQ that is the rule in any fight. The ref was administering a count to the fighter in which the fighter corner was the end of the round, when the climbed upon the apron which is an instant DQ .
Molina was boxing circles around him! And Molina got knocked down fairly lightly late. Molina got up and headed to his corner, The round was OVER. That ref is a dumb ass, It was a confusing situation, You don't DQ them for making a minor mistake like that, Especially when the fighter is clearly ahead! And that one judge that was gonna rob kirkland can go **** himself! How anyone could he that for Kirkland is beyond me! Kirkland and Wolfe both said post fight even THEY knew they were behind! Judge and ref should both be stripped of there jobs, Disgraces to our sport!
hello alt. did you miss when the ref stopped the count to usher the corner man out???? That is interfering. Keith
Yeah, it appears as though it was a legit DQ according to the rules. The ironic thing is that everyone is getting on the ref's case for enforcing the rules, even though it seemed like he was going to let the fight go on. He only stopped the fight after talking with some sort of official who probably informed him that Molina had to be DQ'd. Somehow though, actually following the rules = corruption. There's actually been a few times recently where people claimed corruption due to the rules being followed.
true but until the ref gives the all clear no one should be on the apron. which is why someone in molina's corner yelled for molina's trainer to get out of the ring ..
