Then its a 9-9. The ref has deducted a point from the winners 10 points for that round. That didn't happen in Saturdays fight so one of the fighters MUST be awarded 10 points for that round.

Yup. The huggers don't accept that Clottey never once even hurt Cotto. Apart from when he used his ****ING HEAD of course.

Must suck to be a judge..
Because on fight night I was defo one of those screaming "Robbery"
(& I like Cotto & follow all his fights, But I was mostly upset at the 116-111)

Having re-watched it again, I think Cotto pulled it off 114-113
The KD in the first rd saved him and cemented his victory
w/o the KD this fight is a draw, IMO.

    Here is my scorecard

1st round- Cotto 10 Clottey 8 (Shotgun Jab drop's Clottey, Clean KD)
    2nd round Cotto 9 Clottey 10
    3rd round Cotto 9 Clottey 10
    4th round Cotto 10 Clottey 9
5th round Cotto 9 Clottey 10 (Defo a side step and shoulder tackle, Cotto has done similar acts before)
    6th round Cotto 10 Clottey 9
    7th round Cotto 9 Clottey 10
    8th round Cotto 9 Clottey 10
    9th round Cotto 9 Clottey 10
    10th round Cotto 10 Clottey 9
    11th round Cotto 10 Clottey 9
12th round Cotto 10 Clottey 9 (Rabid Punch & a Nut shot, Clottey looking to get a point from the ref?)

    Final score:
    114-113 Miguel Cotto

Well that's because the judges felt that the round was close enough that the KD won it for cotto. Had they felt that Clottey won the round, you award him 10 points and deduct one for the KD.

Take a round with multiple KD's for instance. if a guy goes down twice you now have a situation where the winner has 10-9. You subtract one point for the first KD and another for the 2nd and you end up with 10-7. Each KD results in a deducted point for the fighter that went down.

You never see 9-9 not because it can't happen but because after going down it's nearly impossible for a guy to win a round. KDs carry just too much weight and judges almost always feel that it's enough to win you the round.

I'm sorry mate but you are wrong. You never see 9-9 rounds in boxing without a foul being committed because the winner must get 10 points in any round unless the referee has made a deduction.

In the example you use a point is taken off the loser of the round for each knockdown, the winner still gets 10 points. If the fighter who was losing the 10-7 round had scored a knockdown himself at the end of the round it wouldn't become a 9-7 round it would become a 10-8 or 10-9 because the winner must be awarded 10 points.

Sorry to keep bolding the "must" but its a crucial point that you don't seem to be getting about the "10 point must system".

If this is the case then 10-9 does not seem like the right way to score a round in which you feel ike the guy that went down won the round.

Take this fight for instance. If you feel that Clottey won the round despite the KD then you would have to award him 10 points since the winner of the round MUST receive 10 points. 10-9 for Cotto would be wrong since you are giving the 10 points to the loser of the round.

Also allow me to present another twist on this. How would you scoure a round in which both fighters went down?

In that example you're not giving 10 points to the loser of the round because the very act of you giving Cotto 10 points and Clottey 9 points makes Cotto the winner of that round on your card.

Easy, if all other factors were equal as well then its a 10-10 round.
