Marquez has weighed over 140lbs a couple of times. Mayweather has weighed above 147lbs a couple more times. Mayweather has experience of fighting guys the same size as Marquez, and he has experience of fighting men who weigh 147lbs and higher. Marquez does not have comparable experience of fighting men big enough for welterweight (as Floyd is and as Floyd has). A clear advantage if you take the blinkers off.

Floyd has weighed over 147 I believe twice. One for DLH and the other for Baldomir or Hatton.

Just because he has experience fighting bigger men means nothing.

Floyd himself is not a bigger man compared to Marquez. The size different is exaggerated. Look at Marquez to Pacquaio. Nearly identical. Hatton and Pacquaio are nearly identical.

Floyd was taller but not as thick or wide as Hatton. So I dont see any advantage Floyd has at 145 that he would not have at 140.

Floyd himself is not considered a big WW. So therefore JMM doesn't need to have the benefit of fighting bigger guys.

:good Although I say I don't think its realistic for JMM to come out with a "W".....for anyone to completely count Juan out wouldn't be smart either. He's a true warrior...one of the best in this era and he has what it takes to beat Floyd.....I just feel the size, speed and talent of Floyd will over shadow the fact that JMM has a style to make it a difficult fight for Floyd. If this were at 135!!!! I could easily see JMM possibly pulling it off.

Floyd's rustiness will be compensated by Marquez's lack of experience fighting in the welterweight division. This is his first foray. Jumping two divisions higher will bulk him up and slow him down. He will be a sitting duck for Floyd's sharp and crisp counterpunches. I predict an early stoppage of Marquez. 3rd Round KO.

I would never say a fighter has absolutely zero chance, but its not far off in this case.

Marquez's natural gameplan is not going to work. Firstly, the weight becomes an issue. Having to put on 10+ lbs without any adjustment period is going to make his counterpunching style less sharp. His movements will be slower, against a man fully adjusted to the weight. This sort of evens out Mayweather's inactivity for me. I don't see counterpunching Mayweather as a great strategy, Mayweather is never there to counter because of his feet. Mayweather will get off first.

If he's going to try and take a more aggressive approach and rely on technical pressure, he's stepping outside his own game, and helping Mayweather fight his own. Mayweather doesn't mind people being aggressive, it gives him all the more opportunities. Mayweather is also the stronger man, I actually think he's going to walk Marquez down.

Marquez struggles with fighters as cagey as himself, that will be the case here. I can't see any strategy working for him.

Thats true but lets get serious here. I think Mayweather would KO JMM way faster then the Mayweather at 145. 135 Mayweather was just Ludacris. so Mayweather would spank him either way, clearly the better boxer, we can all agree on that.

Unless Floyd has lost 3 or 4 steps (not just 1 or 2), I dont see how JMM can pull this off. Mayweather has the youth (relatively speaking), speed, size, and has less wear and tear than Marquez does. I am really curious to see how Marquez deals with a 147lbers power (Of course Floyd isnt the biggest puncher but he still has pop), my guess is not well. If Pacquiao, Diaz, and Barrera can hurt and put him down (Barrera, Pacquiao) I don't see why PBF cant hurt Marquez and take him out if the opportunity arises. Floyd is probably the most accurate of recent memory, that combined with his blazing speed and ring generalship should carry the day.
