I voted yes because anyone can beat anyone on any day... Floyd hasnt fought in 1 n 1/2 yrs... Marquez is on fire... & last but not least, FMJ likes to use technique to beat opponents, EVEN when he has a size advantage, so we have Floyd - great fighter that he is - vs the 2nd (or possibly 1st) best p4p fighter on earth not having stepped into a ring since dec 07 while JMM is in pefect shape both mentally & physically & fighting regular enough to be 100% sharp.

As far as details about how the fight will go, it depends how Mayweather is... if he is close to what he was then I see him outboxing JMM in a tactical distance fight, using his jab, counters & lateral movement, his speed advantage will be a big factor & I see him hurting JMM with straight right hands & winning wide on the cards or stopping JMM late on.

For JMM to win, he has to bank on FMJ being rusty so he can beat him to the punch, get FMJ frustrated (wont be easy), make him come forward more aggressively & counterpunch his way to a pts victory... no matter how `off` Floyd looks, JMM should NOT go for the kill, Mayweather has the power to turn things in his favour at any time, make no mistake.

    :good

most of JMM's fight involved close rounds.. even against class B fighters, he still didn't dominate early rounds. the problem here is that PBF would be a heavy favorite and close rounds would most likely go to the favored fighter..see the close rounds of his fight with pacquiao and even diaz (he was give close rounds bec he was the hometown guy)

Props to JMM for his willingness to fight the best. He is tremendous and has had a remarkable career. He is really taking his shot at greatness by agreeing to match skills with a still prime (though maybe slightly rusty) FMJ. A victory would elevate his career resume dramatically.

That said, he has little to no chance. Floyd is too quick +and+ too strong for JMM. I assume this fight is at 147. [After his first long layoff in a decade or so, there is no way Floyd is coming down to a catch weight.] Floyd coasts to a points win and maybe hurts and finishes JMM late.

I'd rather JMM have fought Hatton before facing Floyd. Maybe (big maybe) his superior skill could allow him to overcome Hatton's aggression/strength and upset RH on points for another title at 140. If he falls behind and has to lay it all out there he might even get stopped by Floyd and not be the same again (of course, at 35 it is understandable that he is prepared to roll the dice - amazing how guys like SSM, FMJ, Pac, JMM, etc. have moved up repeatedly while so many so-called great fighters (obviously overrated by some) defended one belt against multiple bums for almost an entire career (Kessler & Calzaghe leap to mind)). Floyd is extremely crafty and does pretty much everything as well as and/or better than JMM (and that is saying alot).

JMM looked great against JD but JD isn't any kind of preparation for facing FMJ. Floyd is younger, quicker of hand & foot, an inch to an inch and a half taller, heavier on the night of the fight, longer reach, etc., etc.

Will it be a title fight or will they go ten?

Of course he can. I know this is boxing and anything can happen but we're talking about JMM here. Its not like he's some tincan Mayweather is gonna use as a tune up. He's the numer 2 pound for pound fighter in the world. He's the man at 135. He's currently the most technically proficient boxer in the world. So yes he can.

I believe that Floyd is making a huge mistake getting back in the ring with a guy of Marquez's caliber after 2 years out of the sport. Sure, Money stays in physical peak condition all year round, but mentally his head has been out of the game for a while now.

Meanwhile, Marquez has been turning in brilliant performances against some of the best fighters in the sport. Most are writing him off because of weight, but he's just gotten better with each weight class he goes up into. I consider JMM to be #1B pound for pound in the world, to Manny's #1A.

I really don't understand the logic here. Floyd is either way too confident in his ability to come back, or he only wants mega fights and this is his tune-up for the Pac-Man and then that's it. 2 multi-million dollar fight purses and then he's out of the game having hopefully quieted some of the skeptics, who feel he hadn't accomplished enough yet.

I feel Floyd should of come back against an Andre Berto, Luis Collazo, Timothy Bradley kind of fighter. In other words, a good fighter with somewhat of a name that will prepare him for the top level guys. Because he has by-passed this train of thought, it is obvious he is only back to fight the top 2 pound 4 pound guys in the world, make a boat load of money, and enhance his legacy.

This will be an amazing fight. If Floyd has bad ring rust (ring rust is inevitable, even for the Pretty Boy) This fight could be a Split Decision either way. If Floyd comes back and hasn't skipped a beat, I believe it will be a UD for Money Mayweather, but a hard fought one.

Yes, Marquez has a decent chance of beating Mayweather because JMM is a master boxer and the best technician of the science of boxing bar none. Mayweather has never faced a fighter of his skill level before. Its going to be great to watch from a technical point of view.

Berto, Collazo, and Bradley are all (much) stronger and much younger than JMM. Floyd rightly would prefer to fight an aging probable ATG lightweight than the junior welterweights/welterweights you mentioned.

JMM would more than likely lose to the three you've mentioned or would have to go to hell and back to get a win. All three would dust Juan Diaz like he was invisible.

He definitely has a chance, Marquez is no chump to have no chance really, not him nor his younger brother.

The way I see it is Floyd took this "retirement" as a much needed break physically and mentally, sometimes that's actually good for a fighter but we will never know till we see him in the ring and picking Marquez, regardless of size, is not an easy pick like some ******s are trying to hint. Marquez also planned to make a move up for a possible fight with Pacquiao whether it was for Mayweather or not so this shouldn't shock anyone.

Yes...Marquez has the style to confuse you. you just dont know when he's throwing that straight right or his left or his upper cut. and his counter punching would either hurt you or get you out of your rhythm like what he did to Pac.. has good defence...his chin not granite but never gives up even when hurt couple of times...plus PBF been inactive for some time, ring rust might be there..
