Please give me your honest thoughts on Joshua Buatsi. He is one of these guys who is physically very strong, has power, some speed and technically good but mentally seems to switch off in fights and does not fight a full 3 minutes a round. Yes I am not a particular Callum Smith fan who is a tad overrated though the best of the Smith brothers. This is not about Callum Smith who is competent enough but this was a very winnable fight for Buatsi who is more talented than all the British Light Heavyweight’s. If he cannot take out Smith who was there for the taking then he is not going to beat a Bivol or Beterbiev who like him were stellar amateurs. This looks like a tale of wasted promise. My sincere hope is that this gives him the kick up the backside he needs and he takes people out. Yes he showed heart and guts but Virgil Hunter fighters are not defensively irresponsible like yesterday. Please send your comments for me to evaluate. I will read, digest and come back to you in a few days as his performance and career has me scratching my head. Virgil Hunter must be pissed off.

He was always destined to remain British level, he got a bit of a gift against Richards, and went life and death with a guy like Hutchinson who he should have walked right through if he was that guy. I've never had an ounce of faith in him transcending British level, which is why I confidently picked Callum Smith to walk through him. Because Callum is the final boss at British level. Although I will give Buatsi credit, he was far tougher than I thought he'd be. But he's too defensively flawed, lacks elite level power, and is too unfocused to be anything other than what he currently is. Which is bang on average, but tough. He has many prolonged hellacious beatings awaiting him in the future.

I've been a fan of Buatsi for years and really thought he would only lose to Bivol or Beterbiev. He has a style that reminds me of old school American fighters (probably Vergil Hunter's influence). The wins over Hutchinson and Richards were good. But looked like he hit his ceiling last night. Callum Smith is solid - I never rated him that high but he sure looked fresh last night, most people thought he was just turning up for one last paycheck. I think Buatsi could maybe win a rematch, altho I'd rather see Callum Smith fight Benavidez next if Bivol-Beterbiev are tied up with another fight. Buatsi has skills but it's like there's something missing... no killer instinct maybe? Looks like he tires out and can't close the show. Also his power seems to have diminished, he was a bigger puncher in the Olympics and early on in the pros.

I was impressed by his toughness and conditioning. His jab was sharp and accurate and I liked his sneaky left hook and he body punches well. Smith was just a machine in there

I think he's a very talented fighter but he would be the underdog vs the big 3 at 175

He’s a talented fighter with flashes of brilliance. He’s not consistent with it though. I don’t give him a chance against the big 3 at 175. Wouldn’t mind seeing him fight Yarde or rematch Smith though.

Good fighter but our cringe arse media always hype these guys up to be something they aren't.. Buatsi is a solid LHW contender but he won't beat the elite.. that fight last night tho was a fight of the year contender.. they produced something special, so fair play to both of them.. and where the fk did Smith pull that performance from .. it was high class stuff .. nice late career win.

Conveniently, Callum Smith is a Brahma Bull (Taurus), just like The Rock.:sisi1

Physically strong, good chin, excellent fundamentals.

But he's one paced, he struggles to raise his out put when needed too. It's like he had only 1 or 2 gears. So at times it looks like he switches off when his opponent ups the tempo but really he's just unable to respond to the higher pace.

He's only really effective when pressing forward, while he does have a good jab and can out box you from range if you're immobile or give up your height and reach like Smith does, he's not a slickster, defensively savvy or particularly effective on the back foot.

Overall he's pretty one dimensional. We've seen him struggle in fights with guys who dug deep and traded with him and didn't allow him to press forward and fight his type of fight. That inability to adapt to change things up will always be an issue for him at the top level against more versatile fighters or guys who simply are willing to dig deep and be competitive like Smith did.

I thought Buatsi would beat Callum Smith but yes Buatsi is quite one-dimensional and does kind of go pedestrian and switches off. It seemed like Callum Smith had too much experience for Buatsi.

Buatsi is a good fighter but just levels below Bivol, Beterbiev and Benavidez. Buatsi V Yarde would be a great fight.

Positive: physically strong and exceptionally durable, fast recovery after taking hard shots, decent power

Negative: holds too much, mediocre defense, too often stops punching during fights

He's tough, strong, hits pretty hard, decent skills, engine, fun to watch, and he has a top chin based off last night's performance. However, he's too easy to hit and is just not world champion material. No shame in that.

Maybe he could become one with the right trainer and if a weaker or ripe for the picking world champion held a belt at the time but he won't hold onto it long.

Smith was a clear winner last night. He beat the stuffing out of him for long spells. Sure Buatsi was super tough and had his share of success too and hurt Smith with a body shot but even a draw would've been criminal

He needs to leave Hunter. I was a Buatsi fan before he hooked up with him and Dre. As you know, I really dislike and have zero respect for the pair of them. Being the dirtiest fighter of your generation, one of the dirtiest of all time, entering the ring with five weapons as opposed to the legal two, fouling and cheating like crazy, refusing to ever fight on a level playing field whilst expecting everyone to play by a set of rules you never would, refusing neutral judges, stacking the deck like crazy and doing everything, whether it be fair or unfair, hook or via crook, to gain every kind of advantage possible when the deck is already heavily stacked in your favour, and lying through your teeth simply does not align with being a ''devout Christian'' and Hunter and co were even up to their tricks last night

Buatsi needs to get the hell away from them and find himself a new trainer and idol to look up to. I think he was better fighter before he hooked up with them
